Southeastern Travels to Bethany to Take on Southern Nazarene Thursday

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern gets set for the Battle of the Storms in Bethany, Okla., when they take on Southern Nazarene on Thursday, Oct. 2, at 6 p.m. inside the Sawyer Center.
 
SERIES NOTES
  • Thursday's contest between SE and SNU will be the 35th meeting between the two sides, with the Crimson Storm leading the series 26-10, dating back to 2000.
  •  Southeastern has seen more of the recent success, as the Savage Storm has won four straight over Southern Nazarene, including a season series sweep last season. In addition, SE has won its previous two trips to the Sawyer Center by a combined score of 6-3.
 
STORM REPORT
Southeastern (6-8, 1-3 GAC) will be looking to get back to winning ways on Thursday after dropping a three-set match to Southwestern Oklahoma State most recently. The Storm struggled to get the attack going on Tuesday, being held to 25 kills on a .070 attack average. Gabby Jones led the attacking efforts with seven kills, while Maci Morrison chipped in six.
 
The Storm offense continues to be led by Jones, who has recorded 146 kills across 44 sets for 3.32 kills per frame. The Temple, Texas, natives efforts see her tied for second in kills per set in the GAC, and as a team, Southeastern is averaging 12.41 kills per set. Noelia Rocha became the second player this season to reach 100 kills with her four against SWOSU, pushing her to 103 on the year.
 
Morrison is having one of her most productive seasons since joining Southeastern in 2022. The senior middle blocker has surpassed her season total in kills from a year ago in just 14 matches this season, with 95, and has matched her point totals from 2024 (115). In addition, Morrison is tied for a team-high 36.0 total blocks with Alexis Williams, who saw three versus the Bulldogs.
 
Jasmin Dion saw her 14th consecutive double-digit assist match against Southwestern, dishing out 12 assists. This season, the freshman has 11 matches with 20 or more assists and four 30-assist contests. Southeastern has recorded the fifth most assists by a GAC team this season with 11.36 per set.
 
SCOUTING SOUTHERN NAZARENE
The Crimson Storm comes into Thursday's match on a five-match skid following a 3-1 defeat at East Central. Southern Nazarene, through three rounds of GAC play, is 0-3 and has a 4-10 overall record. Early in this season, the Crimson Storm have seen their best play come at home, as they are 1-1 under the lights of the Sawyer Center compared to 0-5 on the road.
 
SNU features one of the top attackers this season in the GAC, with Kate Wright leading the team with 3.32 kills per set, which is tied for the second most with SE's Jones. The sophomore outside hitter has reached double-figure kills in her last three matches, including a high of 12 most recently versus East Central. Helping set up Wright is setter Brelee Mauldin, who paces the team with 6.37 assists per set.
