Storm Fall to Henderson State Thursday Night 3-0

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern opens its back-to-back home matches with a defeat to Henderson State on Thursday night, 3-0 in the Bloomer Sullivan Gym.
 
Alexis Williams paced the blue and gold attack and defense, recording seven kills and 3.0 total blocks. Merrick Hammel tallied a season-high 15 digs, while Riley McFarland and Jasmin Dion notched 14 and 10 assists, respectively. McFarland would also add ten digs to her totals for the fourth consecutive match with a double-double.
 
SE (7-12, 2-6 GAC) is back in action tomorrow at 4 p.m., as they get set to host the league-leading Tigers of Ouachita Baptist.
 
SET ONE
A slow start for the Storm allowed the visitors to jump out to an 8-2 lead before a trio of kills by the blue and gold cut the Reddies' advantage in half, 10-5. Henderson State kept its five-to-six point gap over the blue and gold, and in control, used a 5-0 run to extend the gap to 19-8 and set up a 25-12 set win.
 
SET TWO
Southeastern and Henderson State were locked at 4-all to start the second, but a burst of points by the Reddies pushed them out in front 11-4. The visitors' edge soon grew to nine, but the Storm began to battle back and built a 4-0 run behind four errors by HSU to close the gap to five, 19-14. SE remained within striking distance over the next rallies, though a late run of scores for Henderson State secured the frame 25-18.
 
SET THREE
The two sides traded early blows to begin the third frame, and the Storm would soon take a 7-5 lead behind a 4-0 burst. HSU replied, matching the Storm's run of scores to grab the lead, and from there, the teams went back to trading scores, with the Reddies ahead 14-13. Henderson State soon took control of the final set with a 5-0 run and later closed out the set, scoring five of the final six points to win 25-18.
