DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern battled Ouachita Baptist for three sets, and after three closely contested frames, the Tigers would come out on top 3-0 Friday afternoon.
Noelia Rocha led an SE attack with 10 of the team's 42 kills, while
Alexis Williams and
Faith Kruebbe each chipped in eight.
Riley McFarland pulled the strings for the attack, recording 34 assists, and
Kylee Turner would pace the Savage Storm with 26 digs. In addition,
Alaina Armstrong saw a career-high 17 digs and added eight kills to her totals.
Southeastern (7-13, 2-7 GAC) remains at home for its next outing on Tuesday, Oct. 21, at 6 p.m. against UT Dallas in the final non-conference action of the season.
SET ONE
A fast start for the Tigers saw them take an 8-3 lead into the first break after an SE timeout, and their lead soon grew to 16-7. The Storm would add pressure late, going on a 5-0 run featuring a pair of kills from Armstrong, but the Tigers' lead would prove too much, as the visitors took the opening frame 25-19.
SET TWO
Similar to the first set, Ouachita took an 11-6 edge before the blue and gold rattled off four straight points to trim the gap to one, 11-10. Southeastern stayed on the Tigers' heels through the next rallies and eventually found its first lead through a 5-1 burst that was capped off by a Rocha kill, 17-16. However, Ouachita was quick with its reply, as it flipped the lead back in its favor with a 4-0 run. SE continued to battle at 23-22 and 24-23, but the Tigers would have an answer to each SE score, securing a win in the set 25-23.
SET THREE
Southeastern and Ouachita were back and forth early in the third frame, with the score locked at 12-all. The Tigers were the first to find separation on a 6-0 run, putting them ahead 18-12, and their advantage soon grew to 20-13. Ouachita would remain in control through the final exchanges to win the final set 25-17.
