Storm Dominate Both Sides of the Ball in Win over NWOSU

DURANT, Okla. – Levay Duncan accounted for four touchdowns and Southeastern piled up 507 yards of total offense on its way to a 56-14 victory over Northwestern Oklahoma State on Saturday afternoon at Paul Laird Field at Spend Life Wisely Stadium.

The win lifts the Savage Storm to 3-4 overall on the season and in Great American Conference play heading into a road contest versus Oklahoma Baptist set for 6 p.m. on Oct. 25 in Shawnee, Okla.

SE put 50-plus points on the board for the first time since putting up 62 versus OBU in 2022.

Duncan led all rushers in the contest with 122 yards on 12 carries, averaging 10.2 ypc and scoring three times on the ground.

He added a 7-of-12 effort passing with 79 yards and a touchdown.

Duncan turned in the first three TD effort since Marquis Gray during the 2023 season.

Luke Hohenberger made his return to action in the contest and finished the night 12-of-17 passing for 160 with a pair of passing touchdowns.

SE finished the day with 268 yards on the ground with Donovan Shannon checking in with 60 yards I five totes and a touchdown.

Johnathon Cobb Jr. chipped in 39 yards and Jaylon Burton finished with 26 on a pair of carries.

Hohenberger and Duncan combined to throw for 239 yards and three scores on 19-of-29 passing.

Victor Taylor Jr. hauled in four catches and led the receiving corps with 67 yards and a touchdown.

Kobe Jennings, Gabe Corona, Shannon, Jacob Brewer, and Jax Sternberger each had a pair of catches, with Brewer and Sternberger each getting in the endzone.

The Storm defense was stout, allowing 150 yards of total offense, including just 42 yards on the ground.

SE forced four turnovers, picking up Ranger QBs three times and recovering a fumble.

Christian Brumley led the charge with six tackles, while D'Teaurean Johnson, Prince Dweh, and Braeden Winters added five each.

Dweh and De'Angelo Shanks each logged a sack, while Shanks and William Wallis logged a pair of tackles for loss each.

Dweh and Shanks each forced a fumble as well, while Joshua Dobbins, Joseph Jones, and Bryant Watts each picked off a pass, with Watts returning his INT 23 yards for a touchdown.

Watts was also the last Storm defender to return a pick for a touchdown, doing so versus Arkansas-Monticello a year and six days ago.

After holding NWOSU to a three-and-out and taking over at midfield, the Southeastern offense needed just three plays to cover the 52 yards for the score, picking up the bulk of the yards on Duncan's 37 yard scamper to take a 7-0 lead.

The Storm took advantage of a 25-yard punt return by Andre Williams following the next three-and-out by the Rangers and again needed just three plays, with Shannon picking up 23 on first down before eventually scoring from five yards out for a 14-0 lead with 8:50 to play in the first.

SE ended the next NWOSU drive with a Dobbins interception and would take a 14-0 lead into the second quarter.

Jones would end the first Ranger drive of the second quarter with a pick and the Storm closed the final 30 yards on six plays to push the lead to 21-0.

After forcing another three-and-out by NWOSU, the Storm offense marched 66 yards on 10 plays with Duncan scoring from six yards out to extend the lead to 28-0.

One more three-and-out in the first half set up the Storm with possession at its own 33 yardline with 33 seconds to play.

After using four plays to move the ball across midfield to the Ranger 45 yardline, Hohenberger connected with Taylor on the final play of the half for a 45-yard touchdown strike, pushing the SE advantage to 35-0 at the halftime break.

NWOSU picked up the first points of the second half on a 72-yard drive that covered eight plays and cut the Storm lead to 35-7.

The Storm eventually answered later in the third when Duncan connected with Brewer for a six-yard TD pass that was set up earlier in the drive by a Shannon 49-yard run.

The score pushed the Southeastern edge to 42-7 which remained the margin heading to the fourth quarter.

It did not remain the margin long though as the second play of the final frame was a Hohenberger to Sternberger touchdown connection from nine yards out to push the lead to 49-7.

The defense made one final statement in the contest as Bryant Watts picked off a pass and returned it 23 yards for a touchdown, pushing the score to 56-7.

The Rangers tacked on a touchdown with two seconds remaining to make the final score 56-14.
