SE Stumbles in Home loss to SWOSU

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern saw a halftime lead disappear, allowing 28 unanswered second-half points en route to a 35-14 loss to Southwestern Oklahoma State on Saturday night at Paul Laird Field at Spend Life Wisely Stadium.
 
The loss drops the Savage Storm to 1-2 on the season heading into the first of back-to-back road games, squaring off with Southern Nazarene at 3 pm in Bethany, Okla.
 
SWOSU scored the first points of the game with a 44-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, but the Storm would own the second quarter to regain control of the game.
 
First, Levay Duncan capped an 11-play, 71-yard drive with a 31-yard touchdown pass to Gabe Corona, knotting the game at 7-7 with 10:39 to play in the half.
 
Southeastern capped the quarter with a score in the final minute as DJ Brown crossed the goalline from two yards out to give the Storm a 14-7 lead at the half.
 
The Bulldogs opened the third quarter with a 15-play, 91-yard drive that took 8:19 before tying the game up at 14-14 on a five-yard TD toss with 6:37 to play in the frame.
 
SWOSU added another score in the third to take the lead and tacked on two more in the fourth to make the final 35-14.
 
Duncan finished the contest with 144 yards rushing on 16 carries to lead all Storm rushers, while adding 133 yards passing, totaling up 277 yards of total offense.
 
He would complete one touchdown pass on the day, hitting Corona who finished as the leading receiver with 44 yards on four catches.
 
Brown pulled in four catches and posted 25 yards, while Matthew Nunez had 39 yards on three grabs.
 
Brown also tallied 33 yards and a touchdown on the ground on 14 carries.
 
The Storm finished the contest with 204 yards on the ground and 131 yards passing.
 
The defense was paced by Andrew Grissom who racked up eight tackles, including one for a loss, while William Billing added seven stops with one TFL.
 
Josh Johnson logged half a sack and a team-high 2.5 tackles for loss among his six tackles.
 
D'Teaurean Johnson picked up the other half sack with three tackles.
