SE Clashes with Southwestern Oklahoma State Tuesday

DURANT, Okla. – The Southeastern volleyball team returns to Bloomer Sullivan Gym on Tuesday to face in-state GAC foe Southwestern Oklahoma State at 6 p.m.
 
SERIES NOTES
  • The Savage Storm fell in both matches to the Bulldogs last season, as SWOSU leads the series 25-13. The two sides first met in 2005 in a match that the blue and gold won 3-0 in Durant.
  • Southeastern will be looking to end a run of defeats to Southwestern, who have won the last ten meetings against the Storm.
 
STORM REPORT
Southeastern (6-7, 1-2 GAC) split a pair of Great American Conference matches last week, picking up a 3-0 win at home against Northwestern Oklahoma State, but later fell on the road to East Central 3-0. The defeat drops the Storm to 1-2 in the conference standings through the early parts of the season.
 
Maci Morrison led the Storm against ECU with a team-high seven kills and 6.0 total blocks, which was one block shy of tying her career-high of seven set in 2024 versus Arkansas Tech. The senior from Bandera, Texas, ranks second on the team with 32.0 total blocks, and is averaging 0.78 denials per set, while Alexis Williams leads the way with 0.80 per set for 33.0 total blocks.
 
Helping pace the attack last time out, Noelia Rocha also chipped in seven kills for the blue and gold at East Central, bringing her to 99 on the season. The San Antonio, Texas native is averaging 2.41 kills per set – second most on the team – and is attacking at a .175 clip. As a team, Southeastern is seeing 12.7 kills per set, led by 139 kills from Gabby Jones, and is attacking at a .201 mark.
 
Jasmin Dion became the fourth player among the GAC to reach 350 assists this season after seeing 16 most recently. The freshman from Cedar Park, Texas, has tallied double-digit assists in all 13 matches and is averaging 8.54 assists per set, which ranks third in the league. The Savage Storm has dished out the fifth-most assists this season in the GAC, averaging 11.68 per set, and is one of three teams to rank in the top five in both kills and assists.
 
SCOUTING SOUTHWESTERN OKLAHOMA STATE
The Bulldogs enter Tuesday 3-10 overall and 1-1 in the GAC after falling to Oklahoma Baptist on the road 3-1. Ahead of their trip to OBU, the Bulldogs snapped a six-match losing streak this season with a 3-0 win over East Central at home. Tuesday's contest between SE and SWOSU will be the 13th match away from home this season for the Bulldogs.
 
Southwestern comes into the match as the best defensive team at the net, as they lead the conference with 2.98 blocks per set for 137.0 total blocks this season. Spearheading the defensive efforts, Katja Blanchat (69.0) and Sydnee Winfrey (61.0) rank one and two in the GAC with 1.50 and 1.30 denials per set, respectively. Also helping the Bulldog defense is Jada Permenter, who is fourth in the league with 4.64 digs per set.
