Softball Lands Six on the All-GAC Team

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Southeastern softball program has six players selected to the All-GAC Teams, including two Second Team recipients and four Honorable Mention members.

Tally Rowland and Emily Simmons highlight the Second Team All-GAC recipients, and Alyson Malone, Iliana Olivares, Susan Edwards and India McMurray all earned All-GAC Honorable Mention recognition. In addition, Malone, Edwards and Trinity Oden were named to the GAC Academic Honor Roll.

Rowland, a true freshman, is batting .370 on the year and has 34 hits, including eight doubles and five home runs, while having batted in 24 runs. Three of Rowland's five home runs this season have been grand slams, with two coming in the series at Oklahoma Baptist and one in game two against UT Dallas. Simmons has been one of the Storm's most dangerous bats with runners on base, as she paces the team with 39 RBIs and has seven doubles and home runs. The junior is hitting .307 with 40 hits this season and has recorded 10 multi-hit games.

Olivares notched her second 50-hit season, as she has 56 hits on a .350 average, and is tied for second on the team in doubles with 10. The senior from Dallas is tied with Edwards for a team-high 18 multi-games, and had a streak of eight games in a row with a hit earlier this season. Edwards leads Southeastern in four different hitting categories with 61 hits, 13 doubles, two triples and 37 runs scored. Edwards has also been equally as good in the outfield with just three errors all year for a .973 fielding percentage.

McMurray has provided the biggest pop in the SE lineup with a team-high 13 home runs this season and is slugging .685. The senior outfielder totaled 33 hits during the regular season, and 17 of those went for extra bases with four doubles to add to her home run totals. McMurray has also driven in 30 runs and been walked 17 times. Malone put together her best season in the blue and gold this year, with a team-best 2.52 ERA and 94 strikeouts. The Pottsboro, Texas native has tossed 10 complete games across 30 appearances and has four shutouts, including no-hitters in game two of the series against Southern Nazarene and East Central.
