<p>TAHLEQUAH, Okla. - Southeastern football will get back into Lone Star Conference North Division play on Oct. 24 when it heads to Northeastern State for a 3 p.m. kickoff in Tahlequah, Okla.</p><p align="center"><a href="http://gosoutheastern.athleticsite.net/football/PDF/SOSU-NSU.pdf"><strong><font size="4">Game Notes vs. Northeastern State (10/24/09)</font></strong></a><br /><strong><a href="webcast.asp">LISTEN LIVE</a></strong></p><p>Against the Riverhawks…Tonight marks the 85th meeting between Southeastern and Northeastern State, dating back to the first meeting which took place during the inaugural 1909 season. SOSU trails in the series, 42-20-4, but has won five of the last six, including a 28-3 win in last year’s matchup. </p><p>Notes from last time out… Lost to Angelo State 42-30... three of SE’s scoring drives were less than two minutes... the defense held ASU to 74 yards rushing, the third-straight game that it’s opponents have not gained 100 yards on the ground and the fifth time overall on the season... ASU was the first team all season to score more than one TD rushing against the Storm... ASU was the third team on the year to break the 400 yard mark on offense, SE is now 1-2 in those games... SE had four-or-more TD’s passing for the third time on the year... for just the second time on the season the SE defense did not have an interception, breaking<br />a three-game streak with two-or-more each game... SE did recover a fumble and has forced a turnover in all eight games this season... Justin Pitrucha’s 347 yards is one yard shy of the 10th best single game performance in SE history... SE had a pair of 100-yard receivers, with Daniel Nichols hauling in seven catches for 100 yards and Ty Hull snagging six for 112... Each also had a TD catch, as did Michael Goodlow and Jay Rose... Nichols now has 166<br />career receptions for 2,712 yards, 421 yards behind SE’s all-time leader Romar Crenshaw... Nichols also has 29 career receiving TD’s and is four shy of tying Crenshaw’s career record of 33.</p><p>About the Coaches… Ray Richards (Northern Michigan, 1981) took over the reins for the Southeastern Oklahoma State football program prior to the 2005 season. Richards has compiled a 24-17 record at SOSU and an overall career record of 38-47, with head coaching stints at Southeastern and Southwest Baptist University. His 2008 squad recovered from a 1-4 start to finish the year 6-5 and second in the North Division and tied for third in the overall conference standings. Three of his players earned first team LSC-North honors, with 17 players garnering recognition from the team in some way. His 2007 squad added its fourth-straight Lone Star Conference North Division title after posting a 4-6 record, and a 3-2 record in the division. Richards’ 2007 squad featured a pair of first team all-Lone Star Conference North division selections, while eight players received post-season recognition from the LSC. In three seasons at SOSU, Richards’ teams have produced 16 first team all-Lone Star Conference North Division honors as well as 16 all-LSC-N second team honors. His teams have also won seven specialty awards in the LSC, including his own Coach of the Year nod following the 2005 season.<br /> Kenny Evans (Northeastern State, 1982) Prior to being hired as Northeastern State’s head coach in 2008, Evans compiled an impressive resume as an assistant. Evans has played roles in eight conference championships - four Sun Belt (North Texas); Big 8 (Oklahoma), two runner-up finishes in the Southeastern Conference (Florida); Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association (Missouri Southern); and Oklahoma Intercollegiate Conference (Southeastern Oklahoma State). Evans has coached in the Fiesta, Orange and New Orleans bowls and has helped NAIA and NCAA Division II teams to the playoffs. In 2005, Evans was the All-American Football Foundation National Assistant Coach of the Year when he assistant head coach at UNT. Before coming to NSU, Evans coached linebackers at Louisiana Tech one season after coaching at UNT 1998 through 2006. He was a graduate assistant at OU from 1982-84 and was a wide receivers coach at Florida in 1986. From there, Evans was defensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator for Southeastern State from 1986-88 before hold similar posts at Missouri Southern from 1988-97. </p><p>Good Returns... Southeastern’s Jerome Hewitt entered the 2009 season at the top of Southeastern’s kick return career list, passing Chris Kuykendalls’ totals of 44 returns and 1,120 yards. Hewitt has 81 kick returns for his career for 2,158 yards. His seven returns for 201 yards against Eastern New Mexico set the school record in both categories. He currently has five return TD’s in his career, three punts and two kickoffs.</p><p>Milestone Tracker... Daniel Nichols entered his senior season as SE’s third-ever 2,000-yard receiver, placing him third on the all-time list. With his 84 yard outing against ACU he passed Pete Spratt’s 2,336 yards and is currently in second with 2,712, 421 yards behind leader Romar Crenshaw’s top mark of 3,133 yards. His five catches against SWOSU also moved him to the top of the career receptions list, passing Spratt’s mark of 148, and Nichols currently sits at 166. He currently has eight TD’s on the year, bringing his career total to 28, which is five short of tying Crenshaw’s mark of 33.</p><p>Inside Southeastern Sports every Saturday Morning... Southeastern and KXII have teamed up to give Savage Storm fans a new place to get their Southeastern sports fix, a new half hour show entitled Inside Southeastern Sports that will air on KXII stations.<br /> The 5 a.m. showing will be available on channel 12 and channel 12.1 for viewers with newer digital televisions. Michael Westbrook, the “Voice of the Storm”, will serve as SOSU’s play-by-play announcer with Joey McWilliams joining him in the booth. This week’s game will be broadcast on KLBC.
