SE Set for Home Football Finale

<p>DURANT, Okla. - Southeastern will close out the home portion of its 2010 season when it hosts Angelo State at 2 p.m. on Nov. 6 at Paul Laird Field.  The game will be the final home game for 12 Savage Storm seniors.</p><p>The Storm enter the contest off a 55-20 road loss to Eastern New Mexico which dropped SE to 3-6 on the season and 2-4 in Lone Star Conference North play.  ASU enters the weekend after a 33-20 loss to nationally-ranked Abileen Christian and is 3-5 ont he year and 1-5 in South Division play.</p><p align="center"><strong><a href="mms:\\carmine.se.edu/live">LIVE VIDEO</a></strong></p><p align="center"><strong><a href="http://client.stretchinternet.com/client/sosu.portal">LIVE AUDIO</a></strong></p><p align="center"><strong><a href="http://gosoutheastern.athleticsite.net/livestats/fb/xlive.htm">LIVE STATS</a></strong></p><p align="center"><strong><a href="http://gosoutheastern.athleticsite.net/football/gamenotes/2010/SOSU-ASU.pdf">SE vs. ASU Game Notes</a></strong></p><p>Against the Rams… Saturday marks just the seventh meeting all-time between Angelo State and Southeastern.  The Storm hold a 4-2 mark in the series, but have lost two fot he last three.  SE wont he series opener 26-20 in 2002 and followed with wins in 2003 and 2004.  ASU’s first win in the series was 27-24 upset win in Durant in 2005.  Three of the six games have been settled by six points of fewer.</p><p>Notes from last time out… Lost, 55-20, at Eastern New Mexico... SE will finish the season with a 2-4 mark in division play, its worst since finishing 2-3 in the North in 2001... Saturday was the first LSC-N contest for SE that was decided by more than seven points... SE broke the school record for plays with 96, breaking a record it set just two weeks prior in an OT win over Central Oklahoma in which they had 95 plays... Baylen Laury turned in three TD’s on the day, two rushing and one receiving, and in all scored 18 of SE’s 20 points... Laury is at 999 yards and with his next yard will become SE’s first 1,000-yard rusher since Scott Martin did it in back-to-back seasons in 2000 and 2001... SE has rushed for 150-plus yards in six games this season, and three in-a-row.</p><p>About the Coaches… Ray Richards (Northern Michigan, 1981) took over the reins for the Southeastern Oklahoma State football program prior to the 2005 season and quickly built on to SOSU’s successful history.  Richards has compiled a 31-21 record at SOSU and an overall career record of 45-51, with head coaching stints at Southeastern and Southwest Baptist University. In 2009, 17 SE players earned LSC-N postseason recognition, highlighted by Reciever of the year Daniel Nichols. Richard’s also coached All-American Jerome Hewitt who rewrote the SE record book in punt and kickoff returns. His 2008 squad recovered from a 1-4 start to finish the year 6-5 and second in the North Division and tied for third in the overall conference standings. Three of his players earned first team LSC-North honors, with 17 players garnering recognition from the team in some way. Richards’ 2007 squad featured a pair of first team all-Lone Star Conference North division selections, while eight players received post-season recognition from the LSC. In his first season in Durant, Richards guided the Savage Storm to an 8-2 record in 2005 and a second-straight Lone Star Conference North Division Title. In his second season, the Storm put together a 6-4 campaign.  The team won four of its last five games to capture a third consecutive LSC North Division Championship. His third year saw Southeastern finish 4-6, but finish in a tie for a share of their fourth-straight North Division title.<br />   In Five seasons at SOSU, Richards’ teams have produced 24 first team all-Lone Star Conference North Division honors as well as 35 all-LSC-N second team honors.  His teams have also won eight specialty awards in the LSC, including his own Coach of the Year nod following the 2005 season.<br /> Dale Carr (Northern Colorado, 1987) has guided the Rams to a 23-31 overall mark, including a NCAA Division II postseason appearance in 2005. His focus in 2010 is on returning the Rams back to the playoffs and to prominence in the Lone Star Conference and NCAA D-II.  While at ASU, Carr has coached 25 All-LSC South Division honorees, including three first team selections – tailback Kyle Fox and tight end Justin Carter in 2005 and tight end Jason Watson in 2009.  His student-athletes have also performed well in the classroom with nine of his ASU players named to the LSC South’s All-Academic Team, including quarterback Josh Neiswander and linebacker Ian Ritchey last fall. Additionally, the Rams have had 29 selections to the LSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll under Carr. Prior to his tenure at ASU, Carr served as the head coach at Tyler Junior College for nine seasons, amassing a 66-31 overall record and leading the team to five bowl games, including the 2003 Heart of Texas Bowl. His Apaches also won the 2001 conference title and finished runner-up in the league on four occasions. Before he was the head coach, he was also an assistant coach at Tyler from 1991-95.  From 1989-90, Carr served as a graduate assistant coach at Stephen F. Austin State University and helped lead the Lumberjacks to the 1989 NCAA D-1AA national championship. He spent 1988 as an assistant coach at Niwot (Colo.) High School.As a college player, Carr earned first team All-Western Athletic Conference honors as a senior at Colorado State University. He was named the Sports Illustrated Defensive Player of the Week after CSU’s game with instate rival University of Colorado.</p><p>Laury Earns National Player of the Week… Southeastern running back Baylen Laury has been named the National Offensive Player of the Week by D2Football.com following his performance in SE’s 56-55 come-from-behind win in overtime against Central Oklahoma.  Laury, a senior from Forney, Texas, was productive in all phases of the offense in helping Southeastern to a 56-55 come-from-behind win in overtime at Central Oklahoma. Laury turned in the 11th best rushing outing in SE history with 198 yards on the ground on 23 carries with a pair of touchdowns.  Additionally, he chipped in 72 yards receiving on three catches with a long of 48 yards. Laury also completed a pass, going 22 yards to Brandon DeFrance on third down to set up an SE touchdown. After he scored the TD to give SE a 40-35 lead, he proceeded to haul in a one-handed catch on the two-point conversion to make the score 42-35. Laury single-handedly put SE in the endzone in OT, covering 25 yards on two carries for the score that would set up the deciding PAT. He tallied 276 all-purpose yards in all on the afternoon. </p><p>Laury Named LSC-N Preseason Offensive Player of the Year... Southeastern running back Baylen Laury was tabbed the Lone Star Conference North Division’s Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, while the 2010 squad was picked to finish second in the division.  Laury, a 5-10, 185-pound senior from Forney, Texas, was a second-team all-LSC North Division pick in 2009.  He rushed for 637 yards and four scores, while adding 41 catches for 355 yards and three TD’s last season.</p><p>Inside Southeastern Sports every Saturday Morning... Southeastern and KXII have teamed up to give Savage Storm fans a new place to get their Southeastern sports fix, a new half hour show entitled Inside Southeastern Sports that will air on KXII stations.<br />   The 5 a.m. showing will be available on channel 12 and channel 12.1 for viewers with newer digital televisions.  It is also available on channel 2 (or channel 84 for digital cable subscribers) on Durant Cable, as well as channel 12 on DISH Network.  MyTexoma can be found over the air on channel 12.2 for viewers with newer digital televisions, as well as channel 53 for Durant CommuniComm Cable subscribers. The show will feature Southeastern coaches and players and will cover the full range of sports that SOSU offers.<br />   “This is a great opportunity for Southeastern,” said Athletic Director Keith Baxter, “Having our coaches and student-athletes on television will give fans a chance to get to know them better, while the exposure will be good for the university as a whole.”</p><p>Savage Storm on the Air… All Southeastern Oklahoma football games will be broadcast on either KLBC 106.3 FM or KSEO 750 AM out of Durant. Michael Westbrook, the “Voice of the Storm”, will serve as SOSU’s play-by-play announcer with Joey McWilliams joining him in the booth. This week’s game will be broadcast on KLBC. Tune in thirty minutes prior to each game for the “Ray Richards Show” as Westbrook sits down with the Savage Storm head coach each week.</p>
