<p>DURANT, Okla. - Southeastern football will face its final non-division foe when it hosts Angelo State for a 2 p.m. kickoff on Oct. 17 at Paul Laird Field.</p><p>The Savage Storm enters on a three-game winning streak after a 41-24 homecoming win over Central Oklahoma. ASU had a four-game win streak snapped with a 38-14 loss to then No. 2 Abilene Christian. SOSU owns a 4-1 advantage int he series, taking the opener 26-20 and following up with wins of 33-28 and 41-27 in 2003 and 2004, respectively. ASU picked up its lone win in 2005, a 27-24 decision. The Storm won the last matchup with a 35-0 victory in San Angelo, Texas, last season. </p><p>Notes from last time out… Defeated Central Oklahoma, 41-24... Southeastern avenged a 41-7 loss from 2008 and has now won seven of the last eight meetings with the Bronchos... SE’s Noe Lopez returned an interception 60 yards for a TD, it was the first since Jairus Martin returned one 65 yards against Texas A&M-Commerce on<br />Oct. 6, 2007... Justin Pitrucha turned in his first 300-yard game since torching East Central for 382 yards on Nov. 11, 2006... Daniel Nichols continues his<br />assault on the SE record book, adding seven receptions to his record, bringing his total to 159... he also upped his receiving yardage total to 2,612 yards,<br />trailing Romar Crenshaw’s top mark by just 521 yards... Nichols also scored a TD for the second-straight game and has TDs in five of SE’s seven games<br />this season... the SE defense held a team to under 100-yards ruching for the second-straight week and the fourth time on the year... only one team has<br />thrown for more than 300 yards, while two teams have been held to less than 200 yards... SE did not allow UCO to take a snap in the red zone.</p><p>About the Coaches… Ray Richards (Northern Michigan, 1981) took over the reins for the Southeastern Oklahoma State football program prior to the 2005 season. Richards has compiled a 24-17 record at SOSU and an overall career record of 38-47, with head coaching stints at Southeastern and Southwest Baptist University. His 2008 squad recovered from a 1-4 start to finish the year 6-5 and second in the North Division and tied for third in the overall conference standings. Three of his players earned first team LSC-North honors, with 17 players garnering recognition from the team in some way. His 2007 squad added its fourth-straight Lone Star Conference North Division title after posting a 4-6 record, and a 3-2 record in the division. Richards’ 2007 squad featured a pair of first team all-Lone Star Conference North division selections, while eight players received post-season recognition from the LSC. In three seasons at SOSU, Richards’ teams have produced 16 first team all-Lone Star Conference North Division honors as well as 16 all-LSC-N second team honors. His teams have also won seven specialty awards in the LSC, including his own Coach of the Year nod following the 2005 season.<br /> Dale Carr (Colorado State, 1987) enters his fifth year as the head coach of the Angelo State Rams football team since taking over the position in 2005. Over the past four seasons, Carr has guided ASU to a 17-26 overall mark, including a NCAA Division II postseason appearance in his first campaign. Now, after three seasons away from the playoffs, he is focused on returning the Rams back to prominence in the Lone Star Conference and NCAA D-II. At ASU, Carr has coached 21 All-LSC South Division honorees, including three first team selections - tailback Kyle Fox and tight end Justin Carter in 2005 and tight end Jason Watson last season. Prior to his arrival in San Angelo, Carr served as the head coach at Tyler Junior College for nine seasons, amassing a 66-31 overall record and leading them to five bowl games, including the 2003 Heart of Texas Bowl. His Apaches also won the 2001 conference title and finished runner-up in the league on four occasions. Before he was the head coach, he was also an assistant coach at Tyler from 1991-95. From 1989-90, Carr served as a graduate assistant coach at Stephen F. Austin State University and helped lead the Lumberjacks to the 1989 NCAA D-1AA national championship. He spent 1988 as an assistant coach at Niwot (Colo.) High School.</p><p>Good Returns... Southeastern’s Jerome Hewitt entered the 2009 season at the top of Southeastern’s kick return career list, passing Chris Kuykendalls’ totals of 44 returns and 1,120 yards. Hewitt has 78 kick returns for his career for 2,097 yards. His seven returns for 201 yards against Eastern New Mexico set the school record in both categories. He currently has five return TD’s in his career, three punts and two kickoffs.</p><p>Milestone Tracker... Daniel Nichols entered his senior season as SE’s third-ever 2,000-yard receiver, placing him third on the all-time list. With his 84 yard outing against ACU he passed Pete Spratt’s 2,336 yards and is currently in second with 2,612, 521 yards behind leader Romar Crenshaw’s top mark of 3,133 yards. His five catches against SWOSU also moved him to the top of the career receptions list, passing Spratt’s mark of 148, and Nichols currently sits at 159. He currently has eight TD’s on the year, bringing his career total to 28, which is five short of tying Crenshaw’s mark of 33.</p><p>Inside Southeastern Sports every Saturday Morning... Southeastern and KXII have teamed up to give Savage Storm fans a new place to get their Southeastern sports fix, a new half hour show entitled Inside Southeastern Sports that will air on KXII stations.<br /> The 5 a.m. showing will be available on channel 12 and channel 12.1 for viewers with newer digital televisions. Michael Westbrook, the “Voice of the Storm”, will serve as SOSU’s play-by-play announcer with Joey McWilliams joining him in the booth. This week’s game will be broadcast on KLBC.
