DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern found success at the bottom of the lineup, but it was not enough to overcome a rough doubles outing at Oklahoma Baptist handed the Savage Storm a 6-3 loss on Tuesday afternoon at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
The loss drops SE to 3-5 on the year heading into a three-match road swing in which it will face Northwest Missouri State, Washburn and Nebraska-Kearney March 1-3.
Despite challenging in doubles, the Storm found itself in a 3-0 hole after getting swept across all three positions.
The duo of
Andreea Georgescu and
Sabina Mardarenko fell 8-4 at No. 1, as did
Marina Dias and
Elba Haugen at No. 3, while
Fabiola Juarez and
Cassaundra Braaten fell 8-3 at No. 2.
Braaten recovered in singles play with a 7-6, 6-3 win at No. 4 to put a dent in the deficit.
Haugen also picked up a win in straight-sets, taking No. 5 singles 6-4, 6-2.
Dias rounded out the Se wins with a 3-6, 6-0, 10-5 win at No. 6.
Georgescu dropped a hard-fought match at No. 3 that went to a tiebreaker, 4-6, 7-5, 11-9.
SE also dropped matches at Nos. 1 and 2, with Mardarenko falling 6-1, 7-5 at one and Juarez losing 6-4, 6-1 at two.
