RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – For the second time this season,
Emilia O'Neill is selected as the Great American Conference Player of the Week after helping Southeastern to win against Arkansas- Fort Smith and Ouachita Baptist.
O'Neill secured a 2-0 record in singles play from her No. 2 spot and picked up one victory at Court 1 in doubles play across the two matches last week. The freshman started the week with a win in a three-set thriller against UAFS's Rayssa Dominguez, winning 6-0, 6-7 (11-13) and 6-2 to clinch the match point.
The Pinamar, Argentina native, followed up with two wins in the Storm's conference opener against Ouachita Baptist. No. 42 O'Neill and
Milana Voloshyn dominated at Court 1 in the doubles round, besting the Tigers' duo Natalia Zamora and Ruxandra Tolescu 6-1. O'Neill would continue her strong performance into singles play with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Anastasia Myachina.
This season, O'Neill leads the team with 19 singles wins, including a 9-4 record in dual matches with seven of those victories coming from the No. 2 spot. In doubles play, O'Neill holds a 12-9 record and is 4-3 while playing as a duo with Voloshyn at line one.
Southeastern (7-7, 1-0 GAC) will look to extend its win streak this Thursday, when it battles Harding in Searcy, Ark., at 1 p.m. from the David Elliott Tennis Complex.
