Southeastern Defeats Harding for Second Conference Win

SEARCY, Ark. – Southeastern remains perfect in Great American Conference play after defeating Harding 6-1 on the road at the David Elliott Tennis Complex on Thursday afternoon. 
 
The Savage Storm jumped out to a 1-0 lead after securing the doubles point with wins at Courts 2 and 3. The partnership of Amishi Shukla and Sophia Brooks-Gay gave SE the early advantage in the round, defeating HU's Ece Boylu and Sofai Sarmiento Ruiz 6-3. At the No. 2 line, Lilly Shepherd and Sreevally Medishetti were locked in a back-and-forth match with Paula Rega and Mia Hosking tied 6-6 in the contest, and would eventually come out on top 7-6 (7-4).
 
Capping off the strong doubles round for the blue and gold, No. 40 Milana Voloshyn and Emilia O'Neill took down the Lady Bisons' ranked duo No. 6 Karli Roux and Brooke Coffman 6-4.
 
SE carried the strong start from the doubles round into singles play, as O'Neill earned a win in straight sets at line two, 6-2, 6-2 over Natalia Alvarez. Shukla was quick to follow with a 6-1, 6-3 win from spot three to push the Storm's lead to 3-0. Southeastern soon clinched the match from No. 6 after Sreevally Medishetti won due to a retirement.

The Storm rounded out the match with two more wins to secure a 6-1 victory, with Brooks-Gay getting a win at Court 4, while Shepherd secured a win at line five. Brooks-Gay opened her match with a 6-1 set win, but HU's Sofia Sarmento Ruiz quickly tied the match in the second set, 6-4. The freshman continued to battle in a back-and-forth third set and would come out on top for a 7-5 win. Shepherd picked up the blue and gold's third straight-set win in singles play on the day with a 7-6 and 7-5 win from No. 5. 

Southeastern (8-7, 2-0 GAC) remains in the Natural State on Thursday, as they battle Arkansas Tech at 11 a.m.
