EDMOND, Okla. –
Daniela Garcia stormed her way to a consolation bracket championship, while a pair of Southeastern doubles teams met in the consolation finals of the doubles bracket at the ITA Central Region Tournament in Edmond, Okla.
Â
Garcia found her way into the consolation bracket following a tough round of 64 loss, but responded with a 7-6 (1), 4-6, 10-6 win over Albany Pulido from Fort Hays State in the first round of the consolation bracket.
Â
She followed with a 4-6, 6-5, 10-4 come-from-behind win over Rayssa Dominguez from Arkansas-Fort Smith and made the semifinals following a withdrawal.
Â
Garcia added a 6-1, 1-6, 11-9 win over Southern Arkansas's Kaera Fukai to reach the finals where she finished her run with a 6-1, 3-6, 10-5 win over Jamestown's Bodil van Zeijl.
Â
Lilly Shepherd,
Emilia O'Neill and
Sophia Baillos each logged first round wins in the singles main draw, and O'Neil advanced to the round of 16 with a second round win over Carla Paul Piquer, 6-2, 6-2.
Â
Sophia Brooks-Gay picked up a first round win in the B draw, downing Ouachita Baptist's Jennifer Pfaefflin 6-3, 6-3.
Â
In doubles play, all three duos would drop first round matches to make their way into the consolation bracket.
Â
There they would all make up for that first loss with wins in the round of 32 and in the round of 16.
Â
That would set up the first matchup between two SE pairs, with Shepherd and Baillos picking up an 8-3 win over Valencias and Garcia to reach the finals.
Â
The finals would put Shepherd and Baillos against Brooks-Gay and O'Neil who had scored wins over Ouachita Baptist, Southern Arkansas, and Central Oklahoma duos to reach the finals.
Â
Brooks-Gay and O'Neil would then take the consolation doubles championship with an 8-4 win over Shepherd and Baillos.
Â
The tournament brings the fall portion of the schedule to an end with Southeastern set to return to action Jan. 30 with matches against Texas State and Texas-Rio Grand Valley in San Marcos, Texas.
