DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern's women's tennis team will open the 2013 spring tennis season with a trip to Dallas, Texas, to face Dallas Baptist at 3 p.m. on Feb. 8 followed with a trip to in-state rival Central Oklahoma for a Feb. 11 matchup at 3 p.m. in Edmond, Okla.
The Savage Storm head into the spring season at No. 9 in the Central region and looking to build on the fall in which they won both head-to-head matches.
SE is led by
Andrea Georgescu and Sabina Marderenko who will continue to battle at the top two positions.
The duo posted a first round win in doubles play in their trip to the ITA Regionals in the fall, topping a pair from rival East Central, but they each hit a challenge in their opening singles matches and saw their runs come to an early end.
SE's first opponent, DBU, comes in ranked No. 8 in the South Central Region and No. 50 nationally; and opened its spring season with a pair of wins over McMurry and Hardin-Simmons, taking the first match 6-3 before running away with an 8-1 win over HSU.
The Storm will then face a challenge in former Lone Star Conference and in-state rival Central Oklahoma enters the spring ranked No. 3 in the Central Region.
The Bronchos are led in singles by Petra Pesic and Antonells Rossini who have climbed to No. 5 and No. 7 in the region in singles.
As a doubles pair, that duo will open the spring ranked No. 5 in the region.
Following its opening weekend, SE will be off until its home opener on Feb. 17 when it hosts Southwest Baptist at the Southeastern Tennis Complex at noon.
