Box Score 2 DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern picked up its fourth-straight win by picking up both ends of a Saturday double-header against Southern Nazarene, taking game one 11-1 before winning the series finale 4-2, completing the series sweep at The Ballpark in Durant.
The wins lift the Savage Storm to 15-10 overall on the season and 9-6 in Great American Conference play heading into a span of six-straight out-of-conference matchups, including Wednesday's meeting against Division I Oklahoma State at 6:30 p.m. in Stillwater, Okla.
SE got the bats rolling in the day's opener, collecting 10 hits as a team, led by
Evan Ramsey,
Troy McCartney and
Chevis Springer who each posted two-hit outings. Four others picked up hits on the game.
Ramsey added three RBI in the game, while Springer Drove in two, while
Ryan Salter,
Tucker Alexander, McCartney,
Nick Grimmett,
Trevor Bowen and
Mark Frank each collected an RBI.
Vance Woodruff tossed a complete game with eight innings of work and 14 strikeouts while allowing a run on four hits.
Neither team could crack the scoreboard until the fifth inning, which started with a Woodruff walk and a Springer single, before both runners moved up on a Bowen sac bunt.
Frank would plate Woodruff on a sac fly and after Salter reached on a hit-by-pitch, Ramsey would double home Springer and Salter for a 3-0 lead.
A Bowen single in the sixth would extend the lead to 4-0.
SNU would get a run back in the top of the seventh to cut the gap to 4-1.
In the eighth inning, however, McCartney would connect on a one-out double followed by a Woodruff walk and both players would score on a Springer triple into the left field corner.
Bowen would draw a walk and
Josh Smith would get hit by a pitch to load the bases for Salter who also was hit by a pitch to drive in a run and make the score 7-1.
It extended to 8-1 a batter later on a Ramsey single and moved to 9-1 when the second baseman had trouble fielding a ball hit by Alexander.
McCartney, in his second at bat of the inning, would single home Salter to make the game 10-1.
Nick Grimmett would come in to pinch hit for Woodruff and would single home the final run when he plated Ramsey to complete the 11-1 run rule in the eighth inning.
The finale did not feature quite as much offense as
Brandon Marris worked five innings and allowed two runs on six hits with seven strikeouts to earn his first win of the season.
Cameron Mann would then come on for the final two innings and allow a single hit and strikeout two to pick up his seventh save.
Grimmett was the only hitter to post multiple hits, finishing 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Salter, Ramsey, Alexander and McCartney each collected hits.
Travis Caraway, Springer and Bowen each added RBI as well.
A Bowen sac fly in the second inning put Southeastern up 1-0 as Springer scored on the play.
Alexander drew a one-out walk in the third inning and that was followed by a McCartney double.
Alexander would then score on a fielding error by the shortstop on a ball put in play by Caraway.
The lead would then move to 3-0 when Springer drove in McCartney.
A Grimmett single one batter later would drive in Springer for a 4-0 advantage.
The Crimson Storm would cut into that lead with a solo homer in the fourth and another run in the fifth, but Mann would finish the final two innings in one more batter than the minimum to preserve the 4-2 victory.
