Baseball Splits Saturday Twinbill vs. HU

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern opened its Great American Conference series against Harding with a 9-3 win, but were unable to complete the sweep on Saturday afternoon, falling in game two 5-2 at The Ballpark in Durant.
 
The Savage Storm move to 8-7 overall on the season and 3-5 in GAC contests and will complete the three-game series with the Bisons with a 1 p.m. contest on Sunday afternoon.
 
SE piled up 12 hits in the series opener, led by a 3-for-5 outing from Aaron Chalk, while Ryan Salter and Nick Grimmett each added a pair of hits.
 
Grimmett posted four RBI thanks to a third inning grand slam, while Chevis Springer added a pair of runs batted in and Evan Ramsey, Tucker Alexander and Troy McCartney each drove in one.
 
Vance Woodruff picked up his first win of the season after tossing a complete game, going nine innings and allowing three runs, two earned, on five hits with six strikeouts.
 
Springer opened the scoring with a two-run double in the second inning that scored Grimmett and Chalk and put the Storm in front 2-0.
 
A Ramsey RBI double in the third inning was followed up three batters later by Grimmett's grand slam which launched the Storm out to a 7-0 lead after three innings.
 
Harding would answer with the next three runs, picking up one in the fourth on an RBI fielder's choice by Jeremy Bohnett and adding two more in the top of the seventh on a balk and a wild pitch, cutting the SE lead to 7-3.
 
A McCartney single in the bottom of the seventh would score Alexander and one inning later Alexander would triple home Salter to fashion he final of 9-3.
 
Southeastern carried some of its momentum into game two, jumping out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Alexander singled home Salter.
 
HU, however, would answer with back-to-back RBI hits from the eight and nine-hole hitters to jump out to a 2-1 lead in the second inning.
 
The game then turned into a pitcher's duel until the Bisons picked up three runs in the top of the ninth to extend the lead to 5-1.
 
The Storm answered with a Ramsey solo homer, but that was all they could find as the final would hold at 5-2.
 
Alexander turned in his second two-hit game of the day to lead SE, while Salter and Ramsey each added one.
 
Ramsey's solo homer in the seventh inning was his fourth home run of the season.
 
Brandon Marris saw his misfortunes on the hill continue as he tossed a complete game and allowed five runs, three of which were earned, on seven hits with four strikeouts, but saw his record slip to 0-3.
