Softball Eyes Reddies in Four-Game Set

DURANT, Okla. – No. 2 Southeastern will put its undefeated Great American Conference record on the line when it heads to Arkadelphia, Ark., to face Henderson State in a four-game conference series.
 
The teams open with an 11 a.m. double-header on March 8 and will play another 11 a.m. twinbill on March 9.
 
The Savage Storm comes into the contest at 19-4 overall on the season and 4-0 in league play.
 
SE has won five-straight contests which included a four-game sweep of Southern Arkansas last weekend.
 
Mindy McElroy earned GAC Pitcher of the Week honors following her weekend against SAU in which she posted a 3-0 record with a save and posted a 0.75 ERA in 18 innings pitched.
 
McElroy has lowered her ERA to 1.68 on the season and run up a 7-1 record in 17 appearances with 12 starts.
 
Jacee Bennett still leads the way with 11 wins and 85 strikeouts on the year in 19 appearances with 10 starts.
 
Both pitchers have racked up four saves each.
 
On the offensive side, Jessica Simmons leads a foursome of starters hitting .333 or better on the season thus far.
 
Simmons is hitting .377 on the year out of the leadoff spot, with a .422 on-base percentage and a league best 18 stolen bases.
 
Courtney Moore is right on her heels at .375 with team highs in doubles with six, home runs with four and RBI with 19.
 
Lacie Cook checks in with a .350 average, while Rachel Jones is hitting .333 on the year.
 
The Reddies come into the series at 11-13 on the season overall and 5-3 in GAC play.
 
HSU took three-of-four from Ouachita Baptist to open the league slate before splitting the four-game set against Arkansas Tech last weekend.
 
HSU also has a foursome of hitters over the .300 threshold, led by Sarah Gipson at .377 on the year with four home runs and 11 RBI.
 
The Reddies as a team hit .280 on the year.
 
Kasey Carlock leads the HSU pitching staff with a 3.75 ERA in 16 appearances with 11 starts, while Kayla Williams leads the team with wins with a 6-4 record in 16 appearances and eight starts.
