DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern got off to a slow start in doubles play and was never able to recover as the Savage Storm closed out the regular season with a 6-3 loss at the hands of Harding on senior day at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
The Savage Storm finished the regular season with a 6-12 record overall and a 2-4 mark in Great American Conference play and will now look ahead to the GAC Tournament set for April 19-21 in Bentonville, Ark.
It was senior day for
Andreea Georgescu who was the only SE women's player in her final season.
It was not a great day for the senior who, along with partner
Sabina Mardarenko, dropped a hard-fought 8-6 matchup at No. 1 doubles which was followed up by a 6-2, 6-1 loss at No. 2 singles.
No. 2 pair
Cassaundra Braaten and
Fabiola Juarez highlighted the doubles competition for the Storm as they picked up an 8-5 win, while SE suffered losses at Nos. 1 and 3.
That bad momentum followed the Storm into singles play where Mardarenko, Georgescu and Juarez each fell in the one through three positions, respectively.
Braaten would pick up SE's first singles win on the day at No. 4 with a 7-5, 6-3 victory.
That was followed up by a 6-4, 6-2 win by
Elba Haugen at No. 5, making the score 5-3, however,
Marina Dias would fall at No. 6 to make the final 6-3.
