SE Picks Up Milestone Wins in Sweep

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ALVA, Okla. – After locking up the Great American Conference regular season championship on Friday, No. 4 Southeastern continued its milestone march on Saturday by piling up 32 runs over two games and sweeping Northwestern Oklahoma State by scores of 16-3 and 16-4 in Alva, Okla.

The wins pushed the Savage Storm winning streak to 13 games in-a-row and lifted their record to 40-7 on the season, marking the second-straight 40-win season and the fourth in the last six years.

A win in game one was significant on its own accord as that victory was the 700th collegiate victory for head coach Ron Faubion.  His 701-277 record puts him among the elite Division II coaches, joining a group of less than 20 that have reached that number.  The wins also lift his career record across college and high school to 1,180-394 with a .750 winning percentage all-time.

Big innings was the name of the game for the Storm on Saturday in both games.

The opener got off to a slow start, with a Courtney Riddle groundout plating Jessica Simmons for a 1-0 lead in the first.

NWOSU answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 2-1 lead.

SE answered with a game-tying run in the third when Simmons scored on a wild pitch and knotted the game at 2-2.

A two-run homer by Lauren Renneker in the fourth doubled the score and put the Storm in front 4-2.

Southeastern then struck with its first big inning of the day.

Simmons would lead off the fifth inning with a walk and steal second for an encore Riddle would then drive her home with a double to center.

Courtney Moore followed with an RBI single that scored Riddle.

Shayna Milam would come on to run for Moore and move to second when Whitney Hamilton reached on an error and score one batter later when Mindy McElroy did the same thing.

Larami Beal would finish off the scoring in the inning with a two-run double that plated Hamilton and McElroy to make the lead 9-2.

The Rangers would get a run back in bottom of the sixth, but SE had one more big inning in store for the seventh.

Darrian Williams got the ball rolling with a two-run triple and would score on a Simmons double.

Riddle would pick up another RBI, followed by a pair from Moore and an RBI single from Renneker and when the dust settled SE has posted seven runs in the seventh and fashioned itself a 16-3 victory.

Renneker finished the contest with a 4-for-5 performance along with three RBI, while Riddle and Moore each added a pair of hits.  In all, nine SE players collected hits in the game.

Renneker and Moore each plated three runs, Williams and Beal each drove in two, while Simmons and McElroy had one RBI apiece.

McElroy got the start and tossed four innings allowing two runs on seven hits with two strikeouts to earn her 18th win before handing the ball to Jacee Bennett who allowed a run on four hits over the final three innings while striking out five to earn her eighth save.

In the series finale, SE wasted little time turning in its big innings, starting with a six-run second inning.

A Beal homer put the Storm on the board, which was followed up by an RBI infield single by Milam and a pair of two-run base hits by Lacie Cook and Riddle to mount a 6-0 lead.

NWOSU answered with a run in the bottom of the second, but the Storm did not like that and responded with a nine-run third inning.

The runs started pouring in on a two-run double by Rachel Jones.  That was followed up by an RBI single from Simmons and a Cook RBI double that made the score 10-1.

Riddle followed up with a two-run double and scored on a Moore single.

A Beal two-run homer capped the inning and gave SE a 15-1 lead.

It would move to 16-1 on a Jones RBI single in the top of the fifth.

The Rangers picked up a three-run homer in the bottom of the fifth, but could not eliminate the run-rule as SE won the game 16-4 in five innings.

Cook and Jones each posted three hits, while Riddle, Beal and Milam added two each.  SE finished with 18 on the game.

Riddle drove in a game-high four runs, while Jones and Cook each added three RBI and Beal drove in two.  Simmons, Moore and Milam each added one.
