SE Splits Twinbill at ECU

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ADA, Okla. – Southeastern saw a six-run rally by East Central steal a chance at a double-header sweep, following up an 8-1 win in game one with a disappointing 10-9 loss in the series finale in Ada, Okla.
 
The Savage Storm moves to 23-20 on the season and 15-15 in Great American Conference play and has its chances at a conference tournament bid out on life support.
 
SE now finds themselves fans of Arkansas Tech heading into Sunday as the only chance for a Storm berth into the postseason would involve Harding losing three games to the Wonder Boys.  ATU and HU will face each other in a double-header on Sunday.
 
The day started out well as in the opener, Chevis Springer and Tucker Alexander each posted three-hit outings, while Travis Caraway added a two-hit outing as the Storm racked up 11 hits as a team.
 
Alexander and Nick Grimmett each drove in three runs while Troy McCartney and Trevor Bowen added an RBI each.
 
Vance Woodruff picked up his fifth win by tossing a complete game and allowing a run on four hits with four strikeouts.
 
Alexander put SE on the board with a two-run homer in the top of the first inning, scoring Springer in the process for a 2-0 lead.
 
A Grimmett sac fly in the fourth that plated McCartney pushed the lead to 3-0.
 
Southeastern broke the game open in the fifth inning, starting with an RBI single by Alexander that scored Aaron Chalk followed up by a sac fly by McCartney to make the score 5-0
 
Grimmett followed with a two-run single to right-center that scored Evan Ramsey and Alexander for a 7-0 advantage.
 
Bowen closed out the inning with an RBI double, scoring Caraway and taking an 8-0 lead.
 
The Tigers would pick up a run in the ninth on a sac fly to cut the final to 8-1.
 
The finale got off to a good start as Springer would come home on an Alexander single in the first.
 
ECU would tie the game with a run in the bottom of the first, but the Storm would get back on track in the third with McCartney driving in two runs on a single to left.
 
A Caraway single would bring home another run and McCartney would steal home on a double steal to make the lead 5-1.
 
SE added three more in the fourth inning, first when Calk scored on a passed ball followed by RBI singles from Alexander and Caraway for an 8-1 lead.
 
The Tigers would get three back in the bottom of the fourth and another in the fifth to trim the SE lead to 8-4.
 
An Alexander double in the top of the ninth would score Springer and give the Storm a 9-4 lead.
 
The first four batters reached to open the bottom of the seventh for the Tigers and that was the beginning of a six run rally, scoring the six runs on six hits to hand SE a 10-9 loss in the series finale.
 
Alexander finished the game 4-for-5 with three RBI and two runs score, while Caraway added a two-hit outing.
 
McCartney and Caraway each added two RBI.
 
Levi Lewis got the start and tossed two innings, allowing a run on two hits before handing the ball to Storm Griffin who tossed 1.1 innings and allowed two runs on four hits with three strikeouts.
 
Cameron Mann came on to toss the final 3.1 innings and did not throw like his usual self, allowing seven runs on eight hits with three walks and no K's.
