SE Wraps Series with Split on Sunday

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Southeastern piled up 23 hits over two games, but was only able to pick up a split on Sunday afternoon, dropping game one to Ouachita Baptist 10-9 before winning the finale 3-2 in Arkadelphia, Ark.
 
The split means the Savage Storm split the season-opening series and return to Durant with a 7-6 record overall and a 2-2 mark in Great American Conference play.
 
In the series finale, Jessica Simmons, Sydney Kramer, Laramie Beal and Arianna Jones each posted two hits.
 
Kramer, Beal and Jones each drove in a run, while Kramer scored twice.
 
In the circle, Mindy McElroy picked up her fourth win of the year after tossing 6.2 innings and allowing two runs, one earned, on seven hits with a pair of strikeouts.
 
Jacee Bennett faced one batter and forced a fly out.
 
OBU took the lead in the bottom of the first, but the Storm answered and tied the game on a Beal double that plated Kramer in the third.
 
Kramer then drove in Simmons in the top of the seventh to put SE in front and two batters later Jones singled home Kramer for an insurance run and a 3-1 lead.
 
The Tigers would get a run back in the bottom half, but the Storm would hold on for the win.
 
In the day's opener, the teams combined for 25 hits and 19 runs, with SE striking first on a Kramer RBI double that plated Simmons for a 1-0 lead.
 
OBU, however, answered in a big way with five runs in the bottom of the first, powered by a bases-clearing double.
 
The Tigers added two more runs in the second and got a two-run homer in the third to mount a 9-1 lead.
 
The Storm was not finished, getting a solo homer from Beal in the top of the fourth, but was again answered in the bottom half with a run by OBU that made the score 10-2.
 
Rachel Jones then turned in a one-out single in the top of the sixth that was followed by a Simmons double.
 
Kramer came up two batters later with two outs and doubled home the two runners to cut the deficit to 10-4.
 
Beal then drew a walk which put two on for Haley Strawn who singled home Kramer to make the score 10-5.
 
One batter later Jones connected on a three-run homer that closed the gap even further to 10-8.
 
A Jones RBI in the top of the seventh scored Kramer to close the deficit to 10-9, but SE was unable to bring in the tying run.
 
Kramer and Simmons each turned in three hits in the contest, while Beal Strawn and Rachel Jones chipped in two each.
 
Arianna Jones led the way with four RBI, while Kramer was right behind with three, while Beal and Strawn each added one.
 
Shayna Milam was tagged with the loss, allowing four runs, three of which were earned, on four hits over 2.1 innings.
 
Bennett then tossed an inning in relief, allowing three runs, two earned, on four hits.
 
Hosanna McCoy threw 2.1 innings in relief, allowing two runs on two hits, and Rachel Jones finished the contest with 1.0 innings pitched, allowing an unearned run on two hits.
