SE Baseball Splits DH at UAFS

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 FORT SMITH, Ark. – Southeastern opened its midweek series with a 3-0 shutout victory over Arkansas-Fort Smith, but the Savage Storm was unable to maintain that momentum and dropped the nightcap 9-2 in Fort Smith, Ark.

The split moves the Savage Storm to 10-12 overall on the season heading into a three-game Great American Conference series against Southern Nazarene March 14-15 in Bethany, Okla.

Jacob Carter opened scoring in the first contest with a solo homer to left center in the third at bat of the top of the first inning.

Later in the fourth inning, Chance Burcham doubled home Collin Sefcik and later scored himself on a Cade Clay single to third base to push the score to 3-0 which would hold to be the final score.

A big reason it held is the pitching performances of Jonathan Furlong and Mason Crenshaw.

Furlong tossed six scoreless innings and allowed five hits while striking out four to pick up the win.

Crenshaw faced the game's final three batters, striking out one of them and earning his fifth save of the season.

Sefcik paced the team offensively going 3-for-3 with a run scored, while Carter, Burcham and Clay each collected hits and RBI.

Game two was not as kind to SE as the Storm defense was hit with three errors that accounted for three unearned runs.

Jacob Soisson turned in the only multi-hit outing by going 2-for-3, while Carter and Cody Coats each drove in a run.

Dwight Camp got the start and was saddled with the loss after tossing three innings and allowing seven runs, four earned, on seven hits.

Jonathan Dailey came on in relief and threw the next two innings and allowed two runs on three hits before Zach Burns finished the contest by throwing one inning and striking out two of the five batters he faced.

A Carter sac fly in the first put the Storm in front 1-0 just like it had been in game one.

However, UAFS responded with four runs in the bottom of the first and another three in the second to put SE in a 7-1 hole.

The Lions would add two more runs in the fourth on a home run, and the Storm would pick up a run in the top of the seventh on a Coats single that scored Soisson to set the final at 9-2.
