Box Score DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern took advantage of five Northwestern Oklahoma State errors and kept itself alive in the race to make the top six and earn a trip to the Great American Conference tournament with a 9-7 win on Saturday afternoon to polish off a three-game sweep of the Rangers.
The win lifts the Savage Storm to 19-19 overall on the year and 10-14 in GAC play with six league games remaining on the schedule.
SE got a big day out of
Jacob Carter who finished 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI and two runs scored.
Cody Coats and
Chance Burcham each added a pair of hits, with Coats turning in his fifth home run of the year to drive in two runs.
Burcham,
Collin Sefcik and
Trevor Bowen each added an RBI as well.
Dwight Camp got the start but was hit with the no decision after tossing 5.1 innings and allowing four runs on seven hits with four strikeouts.
Jaime Paxton came on in relief and put in 0.1 innings, facing three batters and getting tagged with a pair of unearned runs on one hit.
Mason Crenshaw followed with his third appearance in the series and tossed 3.0 innings and allowed a run on four hits to earn his fifth win of the year after picking up saves in both games on Friday.
SE put a pair of runs up in the second inning, the first coming on a Bowen groundout that scored Coats and the second on a Carter single that plated
Ryan Salter for a 2-0 lead.
Coats then doubled that lead in the third inning with a two run homer to right field that also scored
Brayon Colley.
NWOSU cut the lead in half in the top of the fourth inning with a two-run single by Calvin Ellis.
Burcham would get a run back in the bottom of the fourth with a groundout to third that scored Carter who took advantage of a throwing error on the Ranger first baseman.
NWOSU put up two runs on a double in the sixth and added two more on a two-out error in the seventh to swipe the lead at 6-5.
SE would take advantage of one of those Ranger errors to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh when
Evan Ramsey reached while trying to sac bunt Springer, with Springer using his speed and scoring the tying run on the play.
Burcham and Sefcik had back-to-back RBI doubles in the bottom of the eighth, which was followed by Springer reaching on an error that allowed Sefcik to score and make the lead 9-0.
The Rangers would score a run in the top of the ninth on a sac fly to fashion he final of 9-7.
