LIVE STATSWEATHERFORD, Okla. – Southeastern sets out on its final conference road trip of the season to face Southwestern Oklahoma State in Weatherford, Okla., April 18-19 looking to continue its climb towards qualifying for the Great American Conference Tournament.
The three-game series opens with a single game at 2 p.m. on April 18, followed by a 1 p.m. double-header on April 19.
The Savage Storm enter the series with a 19-19 record overall and a 10-14 mark in league play following a three-game sweep of Northwestern Oklahoma State.
SE is ninth in the GAC standings with the top six advancing to the league's postseason tournament. However, the difference from fifth to ninth in the standings is just three games with six conference contests left on the schedule.
Southeastern can take a big step towards that top-six finish by knocking SWOSU out of the way as the Bulldogs currently hold the sixth spot with a 12-12 record in GAC play and a 20-19 overall mark.
The Storm is paced on the year offensively by
Chevis Springer who is hitting .313 on the season with six doubles, three triples a homer and 12 RBI.
Against the Rangers this past weekend
Ryan Salter had a breakout showing, hitting .571 for the series with five runs scored a three stolen bases to earn himself the GAC Player of the Week honors.
Cody Coats leads the team in RBI with 24, while nine players have double-digit RBI totals, and Coats also paces the squad in home runs with five.
Mason Crenshaw leads the SE pitching staff from his closer's role, posting a 5-1 record with nine saves with a 1.90 ERA. He factored in every decision of the sweep of NWOSU, earning two saves and a win, and has recorded a save or the victory in 15 of the teams 19 wins.
The team has a trio of starters with three wins each, while
Canyon Conley leads the way in strikeouts with 57.
The Bulldogs enter the series having lost three of their last four, two of which were to East Central in their last GAC series.
SWOSU is led on offense by Dalton Daniels who is hitting .347 with 18 RBI and 29 runs scored.
Kale Thaxton leads the team in RBI with 32, while Brandon Ruiz has two of the team's six home runs on the year as well as the team lead in steals with 15.
Jonathan Johnson paces the Bulldog pitching staff with a 1.99 ERA and a 5-4 record in 10 starts with seven complete games.
Ethan Davis has the best record at 6-3 with a 4.35 ERA and a team-high 47 strikeouts.
