SE Drops Final Two Games at SWOSU

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Southeastern was unable to build on the momentum of Friday's extra-inning victory, dropping both ends of Saturday's double-header at Southwestern Oklahoma State by scores of 13-6 and 9-1 in Weatherford, Okla.

The losses drop the Savage Storm to 20-21 overall on the year and 11-16 in Great American Conference play.

They also make SE's road to the GAC Tournament as perilous as ever with just three games remaining in the conference season.

Southeastern would need a sweep of rival East Central in the three-game season-ending series to draw even for the final playoff spot.  Even that could potentially not be enough depending upon the results from the league's final weekend of games as four of the six teams vying for the final two playoff spots will be in action against one another.

Saturday did not get off to a rough start, with the Storm putting the game's first run on the board when Brayon Colley scored on an Evan Ramsey sac fly in the first inning.

SWOSU answered in the bottom half with a solo homer to knot the game at 1-1.

Later in the top of the fourth, Jacob Carter worked a bases loaded walk that drove in Ramsey for a 2-1 lead.

But again, the Bulldogs answered in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI triple and a sac fly to take a 3-2 lead.

Ramsey would tie the game in the top of the sixth on a wild pitch, but yet again SWOSU had an answer in the bottom half, this time putting five runs on the board thanks to three singles and a bases-loaded walk to mount an 8-3 lead.

The Storm bounced back in the top of the eighth with an RBI double from Ryan Salter and a two-run single by Carter to cut the deficit to 8-5, but for the final time in the game the Bulldogs answered in the bottom half, putting up five runs powered by a grand slam to fashion he 13-6 final score.

Ramsey finished the contest 3-for-3 with an RBI and three runs scored, while Salter and Carter each chipped in a pair of hits.

Colley and Cody Coats each had one hit.

Carter drove in a team-high three runs, while Salter also had an RBI.

Jaime Paxton got the start and was hit with the loss after tossing 5.1 innings and allowing seven runs on six hits with five strikeouts.

Dwight Camp tossed the final 2.2 innings and was hit up for six runs on five hits with one K.

The finale saw SWOSU take advantage of three Storm errors, the first coming in the bottom of the first inning and helping the Bulldogs jump out to a 3-0 lead.

That lead doubled to 6-0 thanks to a solo homer and a two-run shot in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Chance Burcham led off the top of the fifth with a solo home run of his own, cutting the deficit to 6-1, but it was not enough to spark a rally.

SWOSU would three runs in the bottom of the fifth to fashion the final of 9-1.

Six different SE hitters had a hit in the contest, with Burcham's solo home run being the only one to produce fruit.

Canyon Conley took the hill first and threw 4.0 innings, allowing six runs, five earned, on seven hits with two strikeouts on his way to suffering the loss.

Mathew Benedict came on for the final 2.0 innings and allowed three runs, two earned, on four hits.
