Baseball Sweeps Series From Rival ECU

Box Score DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern closed out the 2014 season in style by picking up a 10-7 victory over rival East Central to complete a series sweep on Saturday afternoon at The Ballpark in Durant.

The win lifts the Savage Storm to 23-21 on the year as they finish 14-16 in Great American Conference play, tied for seventh in the league with the rival Tigers.

SE had hoped for a win and a pair of Ouachita Baptist losses which would have given the Storm a ticket to the conference tournament thanks to having swept both ECU and OBU during the year, but OBU picked up a win over Henderson State in game one of its Saturday twinbill to snag the sixth and final spot.

Southeastern had seven hitters collect hits on the day as they connected for 10 as a team.

Collin Sefcik led the way with a 3-for-4 outing, while Cody Coats added a pair of hits and five others had one each.

One of those with one was Evan Ramsey who connected on his second home run of the year.

Jaime Paxton got the start, but was hit for six runs on six hits in 4.1 innings with three strikeouts and left with a no decision.

Mathew Benedict came on and faced three batters, allowing a run on two hits.

The ball then fell to Canyon Conley who lasted just five batters into his start on Friday, but made up for it on Saturday by tossing 4.2 scoreless innings, scattering two hits and striking out three to earn his fourth win of the season.

ECU struck first with a run in the top of the first inning, but SE wasted little time in answering.

Chevis Springer opened the bottom half with an HBP, and moved all the way to third when Brayon Colley reached on a sac bunt attempt when the pitcher's throw was off the mark.

Coats then followed up with a triple to stake the Storm to a 2-1 lead.

Jacob Carter then followed by drawing a walk which put two runners on for Ramsey who connected on a three-run homer to push the advantage to 5-1.

The Tigers picked up a run in the top of the fourth inning, but SE would take advantage of another Tiger throwing error which allowed Sefcik and Chance Burcham to score on a Trevor Bowen sac bunt attempt and take a 7-2 lead.

However, ECU rallied in the top of the fifth with five runs of their own to knot the game at 7-7.

Sefcik put the Storm back in front for good in the bottom half of the seventh with an RBI double down the right-field line that scored Carter for an 8-7 lead.

A Colley single in the bottom of the sixth would plate Bowen, and after stealing second he would score himself on a Coats single to make the score 10-7 which would hold to be the final.
