Softball Sweeps ECU Road Trip

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern wrapped up its rivalry series with East Central by picking up a pair of victories and sweeping the trip to Ada, Okla, winning game one 13-7 and game two 9-4 to pick up a win in the season series.
 
The Savage Storm improve to 28-10 overall on the season and 21-6 ion Great American Conference play and maintain their lead on first place in the league standings with three conference series left on the schedule.
 
In the opener, the Storm took a 1-0 lead on a Courtney Riddle RBI single that plated Haley Strawn, but the Tigers would add a run in the bottom half to even the score at 1-1.
 
SE bounced back in a big way one inning later, starting with as leadoff walk to Lauren Renneker followed by a double from Jessica Simmons that set runners in scoring position for Lacie Cook who connected on a three-run home run to put the Storm in front 4-1.
 
The scoring in the inning continued as Sydney Kramer reached on an error which was followed by a Laramie Beal single and another ECU error on a ball put in play by Riddle that allowed Kramer to score.
 
After an Arianna Jones single Mindy McElroy would connect on a two-run single that plated Riddle and a pinch-running Kelsey Overacker for a 7-1 lead.
 
Simmons and Cook then reached on back to back fielder's choices on plays in which Jones and McElroy scored to push the lead out to 9-1.
 
The Tigers, however, did have an answer with a two-run triple in the bottom of the third to cut into the SE lead an make it 9-3.
 
ECU cut that deficit in half again in the fourth inning with three runs, but the Storm answered with a Simmons double that scored Shayna Milam that was followed by Simmons scoring on a Kramer fielder's choice.
 
Beal then pushed the edge to 13-6 with a two-run double that scored Kramer and Cook.
 
The Tigers picked up one more run in the sixth to fashion he 13-7 final score.
 
Simmons and Beal led the way with two hits each, while five others each picked up a hit.
 
Cook drove in a game-high four RBI, while Simmons, Beal and McElroy each added two RBI each.
 
McElroy got the start, but received a no decision after tossing 3.1 innings and allowing six runs on 11 hits with three strikeouts before handing the ball to Milam who threw 3.2 innings and allowed a run on four hits with three K's to earn the win.
 
Southeastern carried its momentum into the second game, jumping out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a Beal RBI single that scored Cook.
 
However, ECU had an answer with a three-run double in the bottom of the second to take the lead at 3-1.
 
That did not last long though as the Storm responded in the top of the third inning, first with an RBI reached on error by Beal and then by a three-run homer off the bat of Strawn to put SE in front 5-3.
 
Southeastern added to its advantage in the fifth, first when Kramer scored on a wild pitch and again two batters later on a Jones single that scored Overacker.
 
Simmons would finish the scoring in the inning with an infield single to the shortstop that plated Jones for an 8-3 lead.
 
Conner Harmon would add a solo homer in the top of the seventh and ECU would answer with a solo home run of its own in the bottom half of the seventh to fashion he 9-4 final score.
 
Simmons, Kramer and Beal each tallied a pair of hits, while Strawn picked up three RBI and Beal drove in two more.
 
Jacee Bennett got the start in the circle, but lasted 2.0 innings and allowed three runs on four hits with two strikeouts to earn a no decision.
 
Hosanna McCoy faced one batter before McElroy came on to toss the final 5.0 innings and earn her 15th win of the year after allowing a run on three hits with two K's
