Sevilla Finishes Third, SE 15th at Regional

EUREKA, Mo. – Marcos Sevilla Suarez posted his best finish of the season and carded a three-round total of 217 to finish third at the NCAA Central/Midwest Super-Regional, earning an individual bid to the Finals, while Southeastern finished tied for 15th as a team with a three-day total of 923.
 
Sevilla becomes the first SE golfer to qualify for the NCAA National Finals in golf and will next be on the course at The Meadows Golf Course in Allendale, Mich., May 19-23.
 
He slipped one stroke off his pace from Tuesday, firing a three-over 75 on the final day to finish the event at one-over par 217.  It is his third top-five finish of the season and marks the highest individual finish for a Southeastern golfer at a regional since restarting the program in
 
Sevilla finished five strokes behind tourney winner Michael Colgate from Nebraska-Kearney who shot a four-under 212, and two-strokes behind second-place finisher Eric Kline from Central Oklahoma who fired a 215.
 
After posting a birdie on the first hole he would finish he front nine at plus-four, but played the back nine better with an eagle on 13 and a birdie on 16 to come in at minus-one and finish the round at three-over.
 
Jeff Hunter also played the back nine stronger, putting up birdies on 16 and 16 to go even on the back nine and finish his round at a plus-four 76, finishing the tournament at 230 and tied for 44th.
 
Mason Horner birdied two of the last three holes, but suffered eight over par holes on the round and finished at a plus-seven 79 to finish the event at 237.
 
Joey Schroeder had a rough back-nine and carded an 11-over 83 in the final round and finished with a three-day total of 240.
 
Matt McIntosh rounded out the lineup with a 12-over 84 on Wednesday and finished the event with a 247.
 
The Storm tied with St. Cloud State for 15th, while Malone took home the top spot with an 886 over three days.
 
Central Missouri finished second, while Saginaw Valley State and Central Oklahoma rounded out the schools that qualified as teams for the NCAA Finals.
 
Host Missouri St. Louis finished fifth, followed by Lindenwood.
 
Fellow Great American Conference opponents Henderson State and Arkansas Tech finished seventh and eighth, respectively, while Grand Valley State and Nebraska-Kearney rounded out the top 10.
 
SE's other GAC rival Southwestern Oklahoma State finished 19th.
