Softball Set to Host Regional Invite

DURANT, Okla. – No. 4 Southeastern will be looking to rebound from its opening weekend when it returns home to host the Southeastern Regional Invitational Feb. 13-15 at the Durant Multi-Sports Complex.
 
The event features seven teams playing 18 games over the course of three days.
 
Games begin at 10 a.m. on Feb. 13 when Southeastern takes on Washburn.
 
There will be six games over the remainder of Friday, filling fields five, six and eight at the complex at 12:30 p.m. and 3 p.m.
 
Saturday will have two games slated for 10 a.m., with SE taking on St. Mary's on field five, while Southwestern Oklahoma State battles Newman on field 6.
 
Saturday will also feature a pair of 12:30 games and a full three-game slate at 3 p.m.
 
Sunday will have just two time slots with two games taking place at 10 a.m. and two more at 12:30 p.m.
 
Southeastern's full schedule consists of a pair of Friday games, facing WU at 10 a.m. and Texas A&M-Kingsville at 3 p.m., followed by St. Mary's at 10 a.m. and Newman at 3 p.m. on Saturday.  They will close the event with a 12:30 p.m. contest against Texas A&M-Commerce on Sunday.
 
The Savage Storm comes into the event looking to bounce back from a 2-4 start to the season at the NFCA Division II Leadoff Classic, an event they won two seasons ago.
 
Despite the rough record, the SE offense is clicking with a .341 team average that features four players hitting .450 or better, led by Courtney Riddle's .500 average with three doubles, two home runs and seven RBI.
 
Arianna Jones is also hitting .500, but has played in four of the six games, while Sydney Kramer and Jessica Simmons are each hitting .450.
 
Simmons was also named to the NFCA Leadoff Classic All-Tournament team after scoring four runs and driving in three along with a 4-for-4 effort stealing bases.
 
Newman comes into the event with a 1-1 record in a trip to Weatherford, Okla., on the opening weekend of the season.
 
Taylor Schawe played in just one of the two games but was 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI, while Jensen Cromer collected the win in the circle with a complete game, allowing just two hits.
 
St. Mary's comes into the weekend No. 16 in the nation and 6-0 after sweeping its schedule at the NFCA Leadoff Classic to win the Gold Bracket championship.
 
Vianna Gutierrez leads the offense with a .667 average that includes a pair of homers and nine RBI despite playing in just four of the six games, while in the circle Gutierrez is 3-0 with a 0.74 ERA, while Hope Russell is 3-0 with a 1.75 ERA.
 
Southwestern Oklahoma State comes to town with a 1-5 mark after opening the year on a four-game losing skid before downing Eastern New Mexico in Weatherford.
 
Adrienne Martinez leads the team with a .438 average that includes a pair of home runs and seven RBI, while Ricken Rileigh has the teams only win in the circle and a 3.06 ERA.
 
Texas A&M-Commerce is in its first year as a program and is off to a 6-0 start, all at home.
 
Luci Ponce leads the offense with a .533 average and a home run with seven RBI, while Selena Rima has posted  3-0 record in the circle with a 1.05 ERA.
 
Texas A&M-Kingsville makes the long trip north with a 3-1 record following a pair of season opening double-headers against Heartland Conference schools.
 
Carlie Clark leads the team with a .571 batting average, while three others lead the way with two RBI each.  Karri Smith has a 2-0 record in the circle, while Clark recorded a complete game shutout in her lone pitching appearance.
 
Washburn enters the tournament with a 1-2 record on the year after dropping two-of-three in Weatherford on the opening weekend.
 
Lauren Timmesch leads the way for the team on offense with a .556 average, three home runs and six RBI, while also leading the pitching staff with a complete game shutout win in her only start.
