Storm Down HU, Narrowly Fall to UNK

DURANT, Okla.  – Southeastern split its weekend slate, first extending its winning streak to eight matches with an 8-1 win over preseason conference favorite Harding before seeing its streak come to an end in a 5-4 loss to Nebraska-Kearney in a Central Region matchup.
 
The split makes the Savage Storm 15-5 overall on the season with a 5-0 mark in Great American Conference play heading into the conference regular season finale at 2 p.m. on April 15 against East Central with a shot at winning the regular season conference championship and earning a number one seed in the league's tournament April 25-26 in Bentonville, Ark.
 
SE was dominant from the start against the Bisons, sweeping doubles play to take a commanding 3-0 lead.
 
Alexsandra Reljic and Maria Martinez took one doubles with an 8-3 score, followed by Dariaja Catipovic and Conchi Assiego picking up an 8-5 win at number two.
 
Ilga Racika-Racko and Milena Vitez finished out the sweep with an 8-5 win as well at number three.
 
Reljic continued her momentum into singles play with a 6-3, 6-2 win to move the score to 4-0.
 
Catipovic would clinch the match at number three with a 6-3, 6-1 win, making the score 5-1.
 
Martinez added a 6-2, 6-0 win at number four, followed by an 6-2, 6-1 win at five by Assiego and a 6-3, 6-0 win by Vitez at number six to complete the 8-01 win.
 
Against the Lopers the duo of Reljic and Martinez picked up an 8-5 win at one doubles, but UNK would get out of doubles play with a 2-1 lead.
 
Reljic would even the score with a 7-5, 6-4 win at one singles.
 
The Lopers would pick up another point at number two, but the Storm would tie the match on a 7-5, 0-6, 6-0 win by Catipovic at number three and then take the lead when Martinez downed UNK's number four 6-0, 6-2.
 
Unfortunately, the Lopers would pick up wins at numbers five and six to steal the 5-4 decision.
