DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern got off to a rough start in doubles play and never recovered against rival East Central as its bid for an undefeated conference record ended in an 8-1 loss on Wednesday afternoon at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
Â
The loss drops the Savage Storm to 15-6 overall and 5-1 in Great American Conference play heading into the final game of the regular season against Texas-Permian Basin on April 19 at noon in Lawton, Okla.
Â
The Storm slipped to No. 5 in the Central region this week and will dip to second in the GAC standings and wait out the results of a slate of remaining matches, including a pair for ECU which still leaves the door open for a regular season championship.
Â
SE has locked up at least the second seed in the tournament which begins April 24 in Bentonville, Ark.
Â
The Tigers swept doubles play to put the Storm in a 3-0 hole and followed by clinching the match with wins at one and two doubles.
Â
The lone Storm win came on the racquet of
Darija Catipovic who picked up a 6-2, 6-1 win at number three.
