DURANT, Okla. – No. 41 Southeastern picked up its 10
th win of the season and pushed its current winning streak to five matches by knocking off No. 26 Cameron 5-4 on Friday afternoon and following that up with an 8-1 victory over Collin County CC on Saturday.
The wins move the Savage Storm to 10-2 on the year heading into their first road match in two weeks when they travel to Russellville, Ark., to face conference foe Arkansas Tech on March 30.
Friday's win over the 26
th-ranked Aggies was big for a team looking to reach its second-straight regional.
In that matchup, despite falling at one doubles the Storm were able to head to singles play with a 2-1 lead after
Samantha Coquinos and
Anna Buiukian picked up an 8-5 win at two doubles which was followed by an impressive 8-0 win at number three by Luisa Aufarth and
Maria Martinez.
Alexsandra Reljic would push that lead to 3-1 after battling for a 7-6, 6-04 win at the one position.
The Storm would drop the two singles spot, but push its edge to 4-2 thanks to a Coquinos 7-5, 6-2 victory at number three.
Cameron would pick up wins at four and six singles as well, but a 6-3, 6-1 Martinez victory at number five would provide the clinching point in the 5-4 win.
Satyrday's match was decidedly less pressure packed, with the Storm opening up a 3-0 lead after doubles.
The top Storm duo of Reljic and Darija Caripovic picked up an 8-5 win, followed by an 8-6 win by Coquinos and Buiukian at number two.
Auffarth and Martinez polished off the doubles weep with an 8-4 win at number three.
Buiukian would take home the win at one singles by a 6-0, 6-1 margin.
Coquinos would then secure the win with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at the two position.
CCCC would pick up a win at the three singles, but Martinez would get the Storm back on track with a 6-1, 6-4 win at number four.
Auffarth would follow suit with a 6-3, 6-0 win at number five, while
Conchi Assiego closed out the 8-1 win with a victory at number six.
