DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern women's tennis snapped a losing skid and got back in the win column in Great American Conference play with a key 4-1 win over Henderson state this week.
Â
The victory lifts the Savage Storm to 2-8 overall on the year overall and 2-4 in GAC play and locking down the fifth-seed for the conference tournament slated for April 25-27 in Bentonville, Ark.
Â
SE doubles got off to a slow start as
Chiara Berg and
Elizaveta Tregubova picked up a 6-2 win at number three position, but the Storm would drop the doubles points as the Reddies took the one and two spots.
Â
Southeastern bounced back in singles play starting at the top where Berg evened the match at 1-1 with a 6-4, 7-6 win over Sydnee Parker.
Â
India Shiaelis followed suit at number two to give the Storm a lead, taking out Lorish Puluspene 6-4, 5-7, 6-4.
Â
Diana Budnik carried the momentum into the three spot as well, rallying for a 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 win at number four to push the lead to 3-1.
Â
Tregubova would follow up her doubles win with a singles win to clinch the match after handing Mikayla Braun a 6-0, 6-1 loss at number five.
Â
Southeastern will be back in action in non-conference competition to wrap up the regular season, first hosting Southwest Baptist at noon on April 19 followed by a 1 p.m. contest against Washburn on April 20. Both matches will be played at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
