Savage Storm Women Score GAC Win

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern women's tennis was finally able to return to the court this week after weather had turned the spring schedule on end, earning a split of its two matches, picking up an important 7-0 victory over conference rival Ouachita Baptist while narrowly falling in a neutral site out of conference contest with Texas-Permian Basin 4-3.
 
The win is the team's first of the season, lifting them to 1-4 overall on the year and 1-1 in Great American Conference play.
 
In its most recent contest, the win over OBU, the Savage Storm picked up the doubles point thanks to a 7-6 win at the one position by Diana Budnik and India Shaelis, followed by a 6-1 win by Chiara Berg and Nina Sergeev at the three position.
 
SE cruised in singles play, with Berg taking a tough-fought second set to sweep at the one position, 6-3, 7-6, followed by a 6-0, 6-4 win at number two by Shaelis.
 
Sara Dinovic picked up a 6-2, 6-0 win at the number three spot, while Budnik picked up the win in the only match to go three sets, taking the fourth position matchup 6-3, 4-6, 10-3.
 
Elizeveta Tregubova cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win at number five, while Sergeev rounded out the sweep with a 6-0, 6-1 win at the six position.
 
In the non-conference matchup with UTPB in Arlington, Texas, the Storm picked up a 6-2 win at number two doubles by Dinovic and Tregubova, but dropped the one and three positions to lose the doubles point.
 
With the Storm down Berg in the top spot for the match, everyone played up a position against the Falcons, allowing Shaelis to pick up a 6-1, 6-4 victory at the one position to even the match at 1-1.
 
SE dropped the two spot, but Budnik would rally at the number three position for a 0-6, 7-5, 6-2 win to re-knot the contest at 2-2.
 
Tregubova would give the Storm a 3-2 edge with a 6-2, 6-4 win at the four position, But losses at five and six would allow UTPB to swipe the 4-3 final.
