Hamil Steps Down as SE Tennis Coach

DURANT, Okla. – After eight years at the helm of the Southeastern tennis program head coach Shawn Hamil has resigned from his position to pursue other opportunities.

Hamil took over the men's program prior to the 2011-12 season and added the women's program to his watch a season later, going on to combine for a 176-120 record between the two.

"My experience with SE Tennis over the past eight seasons," said Hamil, "Has been a true blessing. I was fortunate to have an amazing wife who not only was my assistant coach/marketer/helper but she also allowed me to partake in a true passion while establishing great life-long relationships with our SE tennis players, assistant coaches, and SE staff."

"My hope in looking back," he continued, "Is that I was able to make a positive influence on student athletes at SE. I will forever be grateful for the opportunity and will keep my eyes focused on what's next for Southeastern Tennis."

"We appreciate the advances that coach Hamil has made with the Southeastern Tennis programs," said Director of Athletics Keith Baxter. "His work over the last eight years has put Savage Storm tennis back into the national conversation on a year in, year out basis. He and his family will be missed and we wish them the very best in their future endeavors. The search for a new tennis coach will begin immediately."

The Savage Storm men over eight years put up a 97-56 record under his guidance, advancing as far at the NCAA National Finals Round of 16 in 2016.

That was on top if earning three regular season Great American Conference titles and three GAC tournament championships while earning three bids to the NCAA Division II Central Regional.

Over those eight seasons he earned GAC Coach of the Year honors three times (2014, 2015, and 2018) and coached a pair of All-Americans, three conference Players of the Year, five GAC Newcomers of the Year and one Freshman of the Year.

His men's teams also earned 21 All-GAC honors, 16 of them being first team recognition.

After taking over the women's program before the 2012-13 season his teams compiled a 79-64 record over seven seasons, advancing as far as the NCAA Division II National Quarterfinals and earning Central Region Coach of the Year honors in 2017.

He tallied two regular season and two tournament GAC Championships and added two Central Region berths, including the 2017 run to the NCAA National Quarterfinals.

The women's squad featured 18 all-conference nods, including seven first team selections as well as a Newcomer of the Year honor alongside his 2017 GAC Coach of the Year Award.
