Women's Tennis Opens Season With Saturday Sweep

SHERMAN, Texas – Southeastern women's tennis served up a pair of wins to open the 2021 season on Saturday evening, first taking down Austin College 8-0 before closing out the night with a 4-2 win over Texas-Dallas.
 
The Savage Storm open the season 2-0 for the second-straight year and will be back on the court on Feb. 11 when they square off with Arkansas-Ft. Smith in Ft. Smith, Ark.
 
In the opener against AC, Southeastern swept through doubles, with Zulay Castaneda and Vanessa Cozamanis picking up a win at one doubles, 8-3.
 
India Shiaelis and Georgia Hosking followed up with an 8-0 win at number two, while the duo of Nina Sergeev and Rhythm Aswal closed out doubles with an 8-0 win at the three position.
 
Elizaveta Tregubova then continued the roll into singles play at the one spot, picking up a 6-2, 6-3 victory.
 
Chantal Lozano followed suit at number two by cruising to a 6-4, 6-2 win.
 
Diana Budnik added a win at three singles to secure a victory with a dominant 6-0, 6-0 showing.
 
Nicole Maldanado would pick up a 6-0, 6-1 win at number five, while Rachel Routledge closed out the finished matches with a 6-1, 6-0 win at number six.
 
Sergeev's singles match at number four was unfinished with her winning the first set 6-0.
 
In the nightcap versus UTD, SE again swept through doubles, with Castaneda and Cozamanis taking the one positon 6-3.
 
Shiaelis and Hosking followed with a hard-fought 7-5 win in the two spot to clinch before Tregubova and Aswal teamed up for a 6-3 win at number three.
 
Sergeev and Budnik would also play a doubles match versus Comet opponents and pick up a 6-3 win.
 
Castaneda would hold the one position in singles play versus UTD and pick up a 6-3, 6-0 win for a 2-0 lead.
 
The Comets would pick up a win at number two, but Hosking would answer with a 6-2, 6-3 win at number three.
 
Shiaelis would clinch the match at number four with a 6-2, 6-2 win, while Cozamanis would suffer a three set loss at number five to fashion the 4-2 final score.
