Rodeo Posts Top-3 Finishes at FSCC

FT. SCOTT, Kan. – Southeastern rodeo hit the road once again with a trip to the Fort Scott CC Rodeo in Ft. Scott, Kan., where both squads posted top of the leaderboard finishes, with the men finishing second and the women third.
 
The men's competition got started with the bareback riding where Dylan Riggins was able to turn in matching scores of 68 in both rounds.  This helped him place in both rounds and ended up with a 4th place finish for the weekend. That moves Riggins into 4th place in the Central Plains Region standings after two competitions.
 
Next up, the tie down roping saw Holden Myers turn in a time of 10.8 that was good enough for a 6th place finish in the first round out of 92 competitors.  He capitalized in the short go round and turned in a 10.9, placing 3^rd in the finals and 4th in the average for the weekend. This moves Myers into 7^th regionally, while teammates Rush Hodges is in 2nd and Cord McDonald ranks 13th.
 
In the steer wrestling, Gus Franzen turned in a 5.5 in the first round placing to place 6th out of 51 competitors. He stayed consistent in the short-go with a run of 5.4, placing 4^th, and ending the weekend with a 3rd place finish in the average.  That finish moves Franzen to 7th place in the region standings.
 
In the team roping event, Garrett Koester with teammate Dawson Mitchell from Connors State turn in a 6.6 giving them a 5th place finish in the round out of 89 teams. The duo had some tough luck in the short go round but ended the weekend with a 6th place finish in the average, heloiung Koester to move to 13^th regionally.
 
The bull riding saw a trio of SE riders finish well. In the long-go, Mason Ward turn in an 81-point ride to finish 1st place, with Hayden Harris turning in a score of 80 for 2^nd. Wyatt Rogers was third with a score of 65.  In an all Savage Storm final, Rogers took advantage with an 82 point ride, earning him a 1st place finish in the round and in the average for the weekend. The weekend helped lift Rogers into the lead in the Central plains Region bull riding standings, while Ward is right behind in second. Kolton White checks in fourth regionally, while Harris is currently ranked fifth. 
 
The Savage Storm Women were dominant in the goat tying, bringing four back to the short-go. Bailey Witt clocked a 6.7 in the opening round to take 1st place, and she was followed by Cara Hilzendeger with a 6.9, splitting 3rd/4^th.  Kaycee Hollingback turned in a 7.0 for 5^th, with Martie Shockley stopping the clock with an 8.2 to finish 10th.  The short-go round brought some difficulties but saw Hilzendeger take advantage by turning in a 7.3 and placing 2^nd. Witt turned in a 7.9 to finish 4^th, while Hollingback and Shockley split with a 9.2.  Hilzendeger ended the weekend with a 2nd place finish in the average, while Witt was 3rd, Hollingback 6th, and Shockley was in 9th.
 
Southeastern will be back in the arena March 18-20 when it hosts the Southeastern Stampede at the Durant Riding Club Arena at the Bryan County Fairgrounds.
