Rodeo Kicks Off Season with Solid Outing at CCC

COLBY, Kan. – Southeastern opened its 2023-24 rodeo season at the Coby CC Rodeo in Colby, Kan., with the men finishing tied for second while the women turned in a sixth-place team finish.
 
Bradon Tyrer led the men's squad in the bareback where he turned in a 65 non his first ride which was good for fourth place in the round and followed it with another 65 in the finals which was again good for fourth place in the round and the average.
 
His teammate Denton Jacobson turned in the top ride in the first round in the bareback with a 78, but was injured and unable to ride in the finals.
 
Rowdy Nimrod would put together a third-place overall finish in the steer wrestling after clocking a 6.1 in the first round to finish eighth before knocking his time down to a 5.8 in the finals to move him to third in the average.
 
Caleb Meeks posted a 68 on his first saddle bronc ride of the weekend and earned a fifth-place finish in the long go. He would come back in the finals and record a 66 which was good for a fourth-place finish in the round and a fourth-place finish in the average.
 
Jarvis Demrey turned in an 11.3 in the opening round in the tie down roping which split 5th-6th before coming back a touch faster in the finals with a 10.9 which was good for sixth in the round and sixth in the average.
 
On the women's side, Avery Moyer turned in the top finish of the weekend and did so in the barrel racing event. She opened the weekend with a time of 16.8 which was good for seventh before trimming that time down to 16.49 in the finals which split 2nd/3rd and lift6ed her to fourth in the average.
  
Mataya Eklund also advanced to the finals after clocking a 16.79 in the opening round, but saw her horse slip on her final run which finished in a time of 19.39 which dropped her to 11th in the average.
 
Kaitlyn Hooper clocked a 2.7 in the first round of the breakaway to split 10th, while Baylee Lester's 2.5 would split sixth place. Hooper would come back with a 3.7 in the finals which was good for fifth in the round and fifth in the average. While Lester took a no time.
 
Jillian Pressley posted a 7.8 on her first run in the goat tying which finished splitting ninth place, and she followed it with an 8.0 in the finals which was good for sixth in the round and seventh in the average.
 
Hannah Giger also made the finals in the goat tying after finishing eighth in the first round on a run of 7.6 before clocking a 9.5 in the finals which was good for eighth in the round and 10th in the average.
 
Southeastern will next be in action when it hosts it home event on Sept. 28-30 in Durant, Okla.
