ALVA, Okla. – Southeastern men's rodeo team closed out the final event of the fall semester with a second-place finish at the Northwestern Oklahoma State Rodeo behind the efforts from
Rodney Jackson and
Jarvis Demrey who each reached the finals in a pair of events.

The finish in Alva, Okla., would help lift the men's squad to sixth place in the Central Plains region at the midway point of the season.
Â
Both Jackson and Demrey would reach the finals in the same events, tie down roping and steer wrestling.
Â
In the tie down, Jackson would post a seventh-place finish in the first round with a 10.6 before coming back in the finals with a 9.5 which ranked second in the round and moved him into first place in the average.
Â
Demrey on the other hand would win the opening round with a mark of 8.3, but took a no time in the finals to drop out of the average.
Â
They were both joined in the finals by
Blake Carter who split fifth/sixth with a time of 10.5 to qualify, but he also took a no time in the finals.
Â
All three ropers are ranked regionally at the halfway point, with Carter leading that group in second and Demrey in third with Jackson ranked fifth.
Â
The pair were the only two SE competitors to advance in the steer wrestling, this time led by Demrey who put together a 5.5 on his first run to win the round before coming back with another 5.5 in the finals, finishing third in the round and fifth in the average.

Jackson opened the event by splitting 11
th/12
th with a run of 6.4 and would finish sixth in the finals with a time of 6.7, moving to seventh in the average.

Demrey currently ranks third in the region in steer wrestling while Jackson is 15
th.

SE would send a trio of qualifiers to the finals in the bareback riding, led by
Colton Matlock who opened the competition with a ride of 70 to split third/fourth but would take a no score in the finals and finish sixth in the average.

Tyler Griffin advanced to the finals after placing fifth in the first round but turned out in the finals for a no score, while
Braden Tryer was sixth in the opening round with a 66 and also took a no score in the finals.

Griffin leads a group of five SE riders ranked in the top-eight regionally as he currently leads the region in the bareback.
Â
He is joined by Tryer who is ranked third,
Luke Thrash in fourth, Matlock in sixth and
Grant Worthington in eighth.
Â
SE features four other regionally ranked competitors at the midway point, with
Waylon Buquoi currently ranked third in the region in bull riding leading the way.
Â
Levi James is the eighth ranked heeler while
Houston Stephens is the 14
th ranked header, with
Brett Coffman rounding out the group ranked ninth in the saddle bronc riding.

Southeastern will be back in the arena in the spring beginning March 7-9 when it travels to Fort Scott, Kan., for the Forst Scott CC Rodeo.
