Softball Set for Weekend Trip to Bentonville, Ark.

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern softball will be hitting the road for the second of three road events to open the season, this time traveling to Bentonville, Ark., to participate in the rain-altered Alvy Early Memorial Classic Feb. 9-10.
 
The Savage Storm open play Feb. 9 at 11 a.m. versus William Jewell before closing day one with a 1:30 p.m. matchup with Washburn. On Feb. 10 they will first face Drury at 11 a.m. before closing the weekend with Central Missouri at 1:30 p.m.
 
Originally scheduled for three days, the threat of inclement weather has already led to the cancelation of games that were set for Sunday, Feb. 11.
 
Bailey Beard leads SE out of the opening weekend with a .500 average while chipping in four stolen bases.
 
Gracie Ore is next in line with a .444 mark that includes four RBI and two runs scored.
 
Sage Harlow is the team's RBI leader with four after the opening weekend and is hitting .429 on the young season with a pair of doubles, while Abby Beck is hitting .400 even with a pair of runs driven in.
 
Amberlyn Walsworth collected the only win among SE's pitchers, tossing a complete game and striking out seven.
 
Taylor Reese took a loss in her only start but carries a 2.25 ERA across 9.1 innings of work with eight strikeouts.
 
The weekend marks the opening weekend of play for WJC who come into the season picked 14th in the GLVC preseason poll after putting together a 7-41 record a season ago and an 0-24 mark in league play.
 
WU opened the year 3-2 with a trip to Conroe, Texas, last weekend and are led by Ellington Hogle and Autym Schriener who are each batting .500 on the season, with Schriener and Jaycee Ginter driving in three runs each.
 
The Ichabod pitching staff is led by Ginter who is 2-1 on the year with a 0.41 ERA and 17 strikeouts.
 
DU is also opening its season this weekend and heads into the 2024 campaign picked seventh in the GLVC preseason poll after putting together a 26-27 record overall last season with a 13-11 mark in league play.
 
UCM will also be opening play for the first time in 2024 and comes into the season picked sixth in the MIAA preseason poll following a 33-21 season in 2023 with a 16-10 conference record.
