SE Preps for Raising Cane’s Softball Festival

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern Oklahoma State is set for a five-game weekend on Feb. 14-16 at the Raising Cane's Softball Festival.
 
The Savage Storm's first two games on Friday, Feb. 14, will take place in Piedmont, Okla., where they will face Nebraska-Kearney at 3 p.m. and No. 8 Rogers State at 5:15 p.m. On Saturday, SE takes on Missouri Southern at 10:30 a.m. and No. 13 Central Oklahoma at 3 p.m. in Edmond before heading to Bethany to close out the tournament on Sunday with Fort Hays State at 10:30 a.m.
 
STORM WATCH
Southeastern (4-5) picked up one win across four games at the Alvy Early Memorial Classic, defeating Truman State 7-4. Sage Harlow led the team at the plate over the weekend with six hits and batted in five runs on a .375 batting average. The Storm finished the tournament with 16 runs across the four games on 33 hits, including eight extra-base hits.
 
SE added three more home runs at the Alvy Early Classic, with Jazzy Rios, Laci Larsen and Iliana Olivares each recording a big fly. Through the early parts of the season, the Storm are second in the GAC in home runs, with eight from seven different players, which has helped the blue and gold produce 38 runs this season. Leading the team in home runs is India McMurray, who has two.
 
Olivares is the first player for the Storm to reach double-figure hits after seeing two this past weekend. The Dallas native leads the team with ten knocks and is batting .323 with two doubles, a home run and three runs batted in. Rios, who had one of the home runs at the weekend, has six hits this season after seeing four at the Alvy Early Classic, and is batting .462 in 13 at-bats.
 
In the circle, Trinity Oden leads the Storm with 24 strikeouts and has a 2.10 ERA in 20.0 innings of work. Oden recorded 16 strikeouts in her two most recent appearances, including a season-high 12 versus Drury. Emily Simmons has seen the most action this year, having pitched 24.0 frames, following 10.0 innings of work in her two appearances at the Alvy Erly Classic. The sophomore hurler has 17 strikeouts on the season and holds a 4.67 ERA with 17 runs allowed on 35 hits. 
 
PREVIEWING NEBRASKA- KEARNEY
The Lopers opened their season in Honolulu, Hawaii, with the Ulili Softball Invitational and would finish with four wins in six games. Ahead of the s start of the season, UNK was voted 11th in the MIAA Preseason Poll after an 18-31 campaign in 2024. The Lopers are led by Alyssa Fortik at the plate with 10 hits on a .526 batting average, and she leads the team with seven RBIs.
 
PREVIEWING NO. 8 ROGERS STATE
No. 8 Rogers State carries a five-game win streak into this weekend's tournament after going 4-0 at the UCO/OC Invitational. Among the Hillcats' four wins, they defeated Oklahoma Baptist and then No. 20 Southern Nazarene. RSU has three players with ten hits this season, including 11 from Calile Yellin, who paces the side with six doubles and ten RBIs.
 
PREVIEWING MISSOURI SOUTHERN
The Lions are off to a 6-5 start to 2025, following the Branson Leadoff Classic and the Alvy Early Memorial Classic. Missouri Southern recently went 1-4 at the Alvy Early Classic, picking up a win versus Upper Iowa 9-4. Katie Gray leads the Lions at the plate with 14 hits, including a team-high three doubles and three home runs, and has batted in 14 runs.
 
PREVIEWING NO. 13 CENTRAL OKLAHOMA
The Bronchos climbed 12 spots in the latest NFCA rankings with a 7-1 start to the season and going 3-1 at the UCO/OC Invite. The only blemish on the Broncho's record came against Oklahoma Baptist this past weekend in a 12-7 defeat. UCO has four players hitting over .400 through eight games, led by Brooklyn Ryan with 10 hits on a .455 batting average. Terin Ritz paces the side with 15 RBIs and has tallied nine hits, including two triples.
 
PREVIEWING FORT HAYS STATE
Fort Hays State kicked off its season at the Mustang Round-Up last week and went 2-2 with wins over Northwestern Oklahoma State and Southwest Baptist. Morgan Schmidt pitched two complete games at the Mustang Round-up agaisnt Northwestern and Southwestern Oklahoma State and tallied 14 strikeouts over the 14.0 innings. At the plate, Madison Pierce leads the side with five hits on a .500 batting average and has one double and home run.
