DURANT, Okla. – The Southeastern Oklahoma State softball program begins Great American Conference play this weekend with a three-game series at Henderson State.
The Savage Storm opens the series with a doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 22, starting at 12:00 p.m., and will play a single at noon on Sunday.
SERIES NOTES
- Southeastern leads the all-time series with Henderson State 28-17 and has won the last six GAC series, including two sweeps. SE has not lost a conference series to the Reddies since 2017.
- Last season, the Storm swept the Reddies at the Southeastern Softball Field by scores of 7-4, 6-2 and 5-1. Emily Simmons threw a complete game in the second contest of the series, allowing two runs on six hits and striking out four batters.
STORM WATCH
Southeastern improved to 7-5 on the young season after sweeping a twin bill versus Northeastern State on Monday in its home opener. SE had the bats going in the first game, winning 9-1 behind an eight-run second inning, and later came out on top in a pitcher's duel in game two thanks to a walk-off three-run home from
Sage Harlow.
SE racked up 19 hits over the two games and scored 13 runs behind seven combined hits from Harlow and
Sabetha Sands. Harlow totaled three knocks in seven at-bats and had five RBIs and two runs scored, while Sands batted .571 with four hits and a pair of doubles. The duo are tied for second on the team in hits with 14 and have 16 combined RBIs, including ten from Harlow.
Leading the Storm lineup is first baseman
Iliana Olivares, with 15 hits on a .375 batting average. Olivares is one of six players to reach double-figure hits, with
Jazzy Rios and
India McMurray having tallied 11 knocks each. McMurray is tied with Harlow for a team-high two home runs, while Sands paces the Storm with six doubles. Southeastern has compiled 116 hits over its first 12 games and is batting .312 with 61 runs scored.
Emily Simmons and
Trinity Oden each picked up wins in the circle after they both pitched complete games. Simmons threw all 5.0 frames in game one and allowed one run on three hits while punching out seven batters. Oden went all 7.0 innings in the second game of the day and totaled four strikeouts to bring her to 36 on the season. As a unit, the SE pitching staff has a team ERA of 4.61 across 85.0 frames with 67 runs surrendered and 78 strikeouts.
PREVIEWING HENDERSON STATE
Henderson State enters 2025 under first-year head coach Joel Worthington, who has the Reddies 6-2 ready to start conference play. All eight of the Reddies games so far have come at home, as they hosted a six-game tournament to start the year with the Hawkins-McGhee Memorial Tournament, which they finished 4-2. HSU's only defeats in 2025 came against Christian Brothers (6-0) and Northwest Missouri State (3-1).
The Reddies are led by their pitching, and that starts with Jersey Cabana, who holds a 0.50 ERA in 28.0 innings of work with three runs allowed. Cabana (4-0) has thrown four complete games, including three shutouts, which have all come in her last three appearances, and leads the team with 16 strikeouts to just one walk. At the plate, HSU has a trio of batters with seven hits, led by Macy Hoskins with a .368 batting average.
