ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Southeastern Oklahoma State women's tennis program opens Great American Conference play with a 5-2 road win versus Ouachita Baptist.
The Savage Storm quickly captured the doubles point to take a 1-0 advantage in the match after sweeping all three doubles matches. The duo of
Amishi Shukla and
Emilse Ruiz struck first with a 6-2 win at No. 3, and
Tania Sfilio and
Sara Gonzalez clinched the point from court two with a 7-5 victory over OBU's Alice Kubler and Karli Gay.
No. 10
Jou Chen Chen and
Carol Mora battled back and forth at No. 1 against Sadbaroy Kholdarova and Natalia Zamora and went on to win the match 7-6.
Into the singles round, Shukla continued SE's hot start, earning a win at No. 5 6-1 and 6-2 to extend the lead to 2-0. Southeastern soon found the match-clinching points, with Gonzalez and
Milana Voloshyn each picking up wins to make it 4-0. Gonzalez defeated OBU's Ali May 6-1 and 6-0 at court six, while Voloshyn picked up a win at No. 3 by scores of 6-1 and 6-1.
Larissa Giraldi Correa capped off the match win with a victory on court four against Anastasia Myachina, 6-4 and 6-3. Southeastern (11-3, 1-0 GAC) continues its stay in Arkadelphia, as they take on Henderson State on Monday, Mar. 30 at 1 p.m.
