SE Faces Northeastern State in Final Non-Conference Game

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern heads to Tahlequah for its final non-conference doubleheader of the season with a midweek meeting against Northeastern State on Tuesday, Apr. 1. First pitch between the Savage Storm and Riverhawks is set for 1 p.m.
 
SERIES NOTES
  • Earlier this season, SE swept a midweek twin bill against NSU, winning 9-1 in the first game and 4-1 in the second. Sabetha Sands had two hits in each game and drove in three runs, while Sage Harlow tallied three hits and five RBIs.
  • Southeastern leads the all-time series against Northeastern State 67-23 and is 9-1 in the last ten meetings. Tuesday's trip to Tahlequah will be the first time since 2015 SE has played a road game versus NSU. In that meeting, the Storm won 7-6 and 13-5.
 
STORM WATCH
Southeastern (18-19, 10-10) picked up three wins last week, earning a midweek split with No. 6 Central Oklahoma, and captured a series win over Oklahoma Baptist, taking 2-of-3. SE swept the Bison on Saturday in a doubleheader to end a streak of 24 GAC series wins for OBU and win its first series over Oklahoma Baptist since 2023.
 
India McMurray showed her power at the plate, recording two home runs against OBU to reach double figures this season with 10, and leads the team with 26 RBIs after seeing four across the during the weekend series. SE totaled four home runs on the week, with another two from Emily Simmons, which brings the team to tie for the second most in the conference with 32.
 
SE's leadoff hitter and shortstop, Sands, notched a hit in each game last week, including three in the Oklahoma Baptist series, to bring her to a five-game hit streak. The Checotah, Okla. native is batting .270 with 34 hits this season and helps lead the team in doubles (9) and runs scored (22).
 
In the circle, Alyson Malone got her second win of the season, coming in for relief in game two to steady the ship. In two appearances against OBU, Malone allowed just two hits in 8.0 innings. The sophomore from Pottsboro, Texas, has a 3.68 ERA in 15 appearances and has struck out 32 batters across 40.0 innings of work. Simmons earned a win in game one, pitching her eighth complete game this season to move to 10-6 with a 3.96 ERA.
 
PREVIEWING NORTHEASTERN STATE
Northeastern State heads into Tuesday's doubleheader with an 11-25 record and a 5-11 MIAA mark. The Riverhawks dropped a pair of conference games to Missouri Southern last time out and have one win in their last seven games. NSU worked a split against Central Missouri on Friday, winning game two 2-0.
 
Leading the NSU lineup is Maddie Messenger, with 38 hits and 22 RBIs on a .362 batting average. Of her 38, Messenger is tied for team 14 extra-base hits with a team-leading ten doubles and four home runs. Korynn Tindel has matched Messenger with 14 extra-hits as well, recording six doubles, two triples and a pair of home runs. Gracie Turner has been the primary arm for the Riverhawks with 84.0 innings of work in16 starts and carries a 4.25 ERA with 35 strikeouts.
