ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Southeastern picks up its second GAC win in consecutive days as the Savage Storm blanked Henderson State 7-0. SE's win marks the first win over the Reddies since 2021-22, snapping a two-match losing streak.
The Storm set the tone early in the doubles round, winning all three matches to take a 1-0 lead.
Sara Gonzalez and
Tania Sfilio got the day going with a 6-1 win from spot two, and
Emilse Ruiz and
Amishi Shukla quickly followed with a 6-1 victory at No. 3 to clinch the point. No. 10
Carol Mora and
Jou Chen Chen rounded out the doubles round, defeating Jenna Bohnert and Kristian Kozlova at the No. 1 line 6-4.
Gonzalez continued the strong start for the blue and gold in the singles round, as the senior gave SE a 2-0 edge in the match with a 6-0 and 6-1 win at No. 6. Not long after, Southeastern made it 3-0 with a 6-2 and 7-5 win at the No. 1 line from Mora, who battled back from 5-3 down in set two. SE found the match-clinching point through Ruiz with two set wins by the score of 6-2 at court three.
Milana Voloshyn got the Storm's fourth win in straight sets during singles play, as she won her match at No. 2 6-4 and 6-3 over HSU's Jenna Bohnert. Both
Larissa Giraldi Correa and Shukla had to battle back for their wins, with both matches needing a third set to decide the winner. Correa fell behind her match 5-7 and took the next two sets by scores of 6-4 and 1-0 to win, while Shulka won her second and third sets 6-2 and 7-6 to capture a victory.
Southeastern (12-3, 2-0 GAC) returns to Durant to host Arkansas Tech in a Great American Conference match on Thursday, Apr. 3 at 1 p.m. from the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
