SE Closes Out Road Stand in Magnolia

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern closes out its road portion of its schedule in Magnolia for a three-game series against the nationally ranked No. 9 Muleriders of Southern Arkansas on April 18 and 19.

The Savage Storm and Muleriders open the series with a single game on Friday at 5 p.m. before playing a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m.

SERIES NOTES
  • Last year, Southeastern took 2-of-3 from Southern Arkansas at home, winning games two and three 7-3 and 5-4. In game three, Kennedy Morgan provided the go-ahead in the fifth with an RBI single to put the Storm ahead.
  • SE trails the Muleriders in the all-time series by one game, 33-32, but will be looking for its first series win in Magnolia since 2021.

STORM WATCH
Southeastern started its final road stretch at East Central on Tuesday, where the Storm would fall 7-4 in the series finale after taking the doubleheader earlier this season. Following the defeat, SE sits tied for sixth in the GAC standings with Arkansas Tech at 15-12 and has an overall record of 24-22.

With two conference series to go this season, the blue and gold hold a three-game advantage over seventh-place Henderson State and are six games ahead of ECU in eighth. All three of SE, ATU and Southern Nazarene have 15 wins, but the Crimson Storm hold the edge with a 15-11 mark. Southern Arkansas, Oklahoma Baptist and Harding have all clinched a spot in the postseason tournament.

Emily Simmons had a hand in all four runs scored on Tuesday, as she finished the game 3-of-3 with four RBIs and a run scored. The sophomore recorded her fifth home run of the season against the Tigers with a three-run shot in the top of the fourth, which brings her to a tie for the second most on the team. This season, Simmons has 18 hits on a .217 average, with three doubles and 18 RBIs.

Iliana Olivares continued her hitting streak, adding a pair of hits in the midweek to extend it to 11 games. Olivares is one of two players with 50 hits for SE with a team-high 56, while Sage Harlow eclipsed 50 on the year with a two-hit game versus ECU. In addition, both rank one and two in RBIs, with Olivares tied for the most at 28 and Harlow in second with 25.

PREVIEWING NO. 9 SOUTHERN ARKANSAS
No. 9 Southern Arkansas has been on a roll in 2025, having won 27 straight games to compile a 37-5 overall record and 27-1 GAC mark. The only loss for SAU this season came in the series opener against Southern Nazarene, who would get a 3-0 win in the series finale. Highlighting the Mulerider's streak of victories was a sweep of then-No. 10 Harding, as SAU blanked the Lady Bison in all three games, outscoring them 10-0.

It starts in the circle for the Muleriders, with Brinson Rogers, who recently picked up her ninth GAC Pitcher of the Week award. Rogers has been lockdown from the stripe with 19 runs allowed all year in 165.0 innings of work and is second in Division II with 233 strikeouts. In addition, the senior is third in the nation with a 0.68 ERA and has not given up a run in her last six appearances. Behind Rogers, SAU has outscored its opponents 229-to-63 with the help of three players with 30 RBIs.
