FORT SMITH, Ark. – Southeastern improves to 14-3 on the year with a non-conference win over Arkansas-Fort Smith 4-1 on Friday afternoon.
Â
The Savage Storm were quick to take a 1-0 lead, securing doubles wins at No. 1 and No. 2.
Jou Chen Chen and
Emilse Ruiz got the match started, blanking the UAFS duo of Arianna Debernardo and Taylor Conway 6-0 from the No. 1 line. At court two,
Sara Gonzalez and
Tania Sfilio quickly followed with a 6-1 win to clinch the doubles point.
Â
In the singles round, Gonzalez made it 2-0 from No. 4 with set wins of 6-1, but a retirement at court two would give the hosts their first point of the match, 2-1. However, a win in straight sets for Chen Chen, 6-3 and 6-1 at No. 5 pushed the Storm ahead 3-1, and a retirement at No. 3 gave the blue and gold match point, 4-1.
Â
Southeastern (14-3, 3-0) looks to extend its win streak against No. 39 Southern Arkansas on Saturday, Apr. 19, at 11 a.m. from Magnolia.
