Southeastern Closes Out the Regular Season with Ouachita Baptist

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern takes the diamond for the final time this season at the Southeastern Softball Field, as they host Ouachita Baptist in the final GAC regular-season series.

The Savage Storm and Tigers are slated to open the series with a doubleheader on Saturday, Apr. 26 at 1 p.m. before playing the finale on Sunday at noon.

Ahead of the game on Sunday, SE will recognize seniors Sabetha Sands, Sage Harlow, Sheyenne Cheek, Kristin Rodriguez and Kennedy Morgan.

SERIES NOTES
  • Southeastern has owned the matchup with Ouachita Baptist with a 42-8 overall record against the Tigers. SE has dropped just two games to OBU in the previous 20 meetings, after taking 2-of-3 last year.
  • The Storm have been almost unbeatable at home against the Tigers with a 21-2 mark. The blue and gold have swept their last three series in Durant, including a 2023 meeting, outscoring OBU 13-2 over the three games.

STORM WATCH
Southeastern fell at the weekend to then No. 9 Southern Arkansas after opening the series with a 4-0 win. In game two, the blue and gold jumped on the Muleriders earlier with a six-run first inning, but SAU would battle back to even the series before winning the finale. SE returns home with a 25-24 overall record and is 16-14 in the conference.

With last week's results, the Storm became the fifth team to clinch a spot in the 2025 GAC Tournament. SE ranks fifth in the league standings with one GAC series remaining and holds a one-game advantage over Arkansas Tech in sixth. Southeastern is within striking distance of fourth place, as they sit two games back of Southern Nazarene, who is 18-12 in conference play.

Freshman Trinity Oden continues to shine in the circle in her first year, as she helped the Storm to a 4-0 win over then No. 9 SAU in game one. This season, Oden has picked up wins in the circle against three top 15 teams, including two complete-game shutouts versus Harding and Southern Arkansas. The Vivian, La. native paces the side in strikeouts (104) and ERA (3.35) with 92.0 innings of work.

Emily Simmons and India McMurray brought the power to the plate last week, combining for five home runs. Simmons had three of them with a homer against East Central and two more in game one versus SAU, while McMurray highlighted game two against the Muleriders with a grand slam. The blue and gold are tied for the second most home runs in the conference with 40, and are led by McMurray, who ranks second in the GAC with 13.

PREVIEWING OUACHITA BAPTIST
Ouachita Baptist took 2-of-3 from Northwestern Oklahoma State last time out to win the series, as they head into the weekend 19-31 overall and 10-12 in the GAC. The Tigers' series win over NWOSU marked the fourth one this season and their first true road series win this season. OBU has struggled away from home in 2025 with just a 7-17 road mark compared to its 10-12 home record.

The Ouachita lineup is led by Baylee King, who is batting .340 with 53 hits. King leads the team with two triples and has eight doubles, while Emily Reed has been the Tigers' biggest bat with ten doubles, ten home runs, and 38 runs driven in. In the circle, OBU is led by freshman Catie Amador with 90 strikeouts in 147.1 innings of work, and a 3.61 ERA. Amador pitched two complete games against NWOSU, allowing just two runs on 11 hits and recording 10 punchouts.
