Softball Heads to Weatherford to Face SWOSU on Sunday and Monday

DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern Oklahoma State heads up north to Weatherford for a three-game GAC series with Southwestern Oklahoma State.
 
Due to weather, the Savage Storm and Bulldogs are now slated for a single game on Sunday, Apr. 6, at 3 p.m. to open the series and a doubleheader will follow on Monday, starting at noon.
 
SERIES NOTES
  • Southeastern leads the series versus the Bulldogs 97-16 after earning a series win last season at home 2-to-3. SWOSU took the first game 7-0, but the Storm came roaring back to win the next two 5-4 and 8-0.
  • SE's last three trips to Weatherford have resulted in series wins, including a sweep in 2023 when the blue and gold outscored Southwestern Oklahoma State 13-2 over the three games.
 
STORM WATCH
Southeastern concluded its final non-conference action on Tuesday, splitting two games at Northeastern State. The Riverhawks took the game 4-0, and the Storm went on to win the second game of the day 13-5 with a six-run fourth inning. Following the 1-1 trip to Tahlequah, SE moves to 19-20 on the season while holding a 10-10 conference record, which puts them sixth in the league standings.
 
The Storm racked up 13 hits in game two versus NSU, and seven of those hits went for extra bases with five doubles and two home runs. Sage Harlow tallied three hits in the game, all going for doubles, pushing her nine doubles on the year. Iliana Olivares also chipped a two-base hit, as she now leads the team and conference in doubles with 11 while batting .365 with a team-best 46 hits.
 
India McMurray blasted a home run in the second game at Northeastern State for her third home run in five games. The junior from Dallas has racked up 11 homers this season to lead the GAC and team. In addition, McMurray has driven in the most runs for the Storm with 28 RBIs and is tied with Olivares for a team-high .365 batting average. As a unit, SE is second in the conference in home runs, having recorded 34.
 
SE used a quartet of arms in the circle during the midweek, with Alyson Malone and Trinity Oden getting the start in games one and two, respectively. Oden got her sixth win in the second game, pitching 5.0 frames with five runs allowed on seven hits with five punchouts. The win pushes the freshman to 6-4 this season with 77.1 innings of work and carries a 3.71 ERA with a team-high 84 strikeouts.  

PREVIEWING SOUTHWESTERN OKLAHOMA STATE
The Bulldogs come into the week off the back of its first GAC series win this season at East Central, as SWOSU won game one 8-4 and took the second contest 9-3. After the pair of wins, Southwestern Oklahoma State moves into a tie with four teams in ninth in the league standings at 5-15 and have a 12-20 overall record.   
 
Chesnie Hewitt is the Bulldog's most productive bat this season, as the senior leads the team with 38 hits, ten doubles, four triples and five home runs. Hewitt is also batting a team-high .362 and leads the way with 23 runs batted in. Against ECU, the utility player had five hits, and racked up nine RBIs and five scored runs. In the circle, Alexis Taylor leads the team with 61 strikeouts in 81.2 innings of work and has a 3.86 ERA. All of Taylor's 19 appearances have been starts, and she carries an 8-7 record.
